ACTIVISM Bernie Sanders Announces Nationwide Pre-Inauguration Protest

By Alexandra Rosenmann / AlterNet January 4, 2017

‘One week before Donald Trump takes office, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and his allies will be protesting the Republicans’ new agenda nationwide.

On January 15, for the first time in the modern history of the Democratic Party, Democrats are going to be organizing rallies all across this country in opposition to the Republican budget, which calls for throwing 30 million people off of healthcare, taking their insurance away… privatizing Medicare, making massive cuts in Medicaid, and at the same time giving tax breaks to the wealthy,” Sanders told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in a January 3 interview.

“We’re asking U.S. senators, members of the House, labor unions, environmental groups, senior groups, ordinary people to come together and tell the Republican Party that their priorities are absolutely backwards,” Sanders explained. ‘

Sanders will participate in a CNN town hall in anticipation of the event on January 9.

    2. Is this an official Democratic Party protest?

I’m not ready to spend time with official Democrats, even if Bernie is their buddy.   You can say I am still pouting, I don’t mind.

      5. You can pout if you want but what none of us can do is ignore the need to fight

for the issues. And like it or not we will be fighting with people who voted differently than we did. I do not think this is an official Democratic Party event although many will include themselves. If we are going to protest for the issues we are going to have a lot of strange bedfellows.

I voted for Jill but I care about these issues and I do not see this as a party issue. It belongs to all of us.

        8. You are right, of course. A lot is at stake.

Do I have to be nice and converse with third-wayers, too?

          9. NO. Although I actually think it is a waste of time to confront them. They are

          not going to learn anything.

    3. I saw this on the tube

    Bernie is one smart guy.

So why is it that all the other candidates that ran for president have gone off to the side, as though nothing happened? Wouldn’t one consider that normal? “Hey, I lost, life goes on”, right?

Not this guy. Bernie is all about “We the people”. I support Bernie 100% in anything he pursues.

Damn, we really made a big mistake in not electing him.

There is no one like Bernie Sanders. NO ONE!!!

    4. Meanwhile the Third Way will be organizing a protest against Sanders

    We need a new Party.

      6. Most of us are already in a new party. But protesting issues is not belonging to

      a party.

Imagine having this argument before a MLK march. Blacks only would have been the cry. Thank God, they had more sense than limit to protesters.

      13. I thought Bernie was working with the third-wayers on this.

The nationwide day of action – “Our First Stand: Save Health Care” – is being organized by Senate and House Democratic Leaders Charles E. Schumer and Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Bernie Sanders, the leader of outreach efforts for Senate Democrats.

    7. One question – how is a town hall on tv handled. A TH is a conversation – how do

we have a conversation with a tv?

      10. This is from the original link I now cannot locate—-

      arraugh.

I think it’s a Q&A with audience members and  Chris Cuomo from CNN.

Washington (CNN)Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will participate in a prime-time CNN Town Hall next week just as the Republican-controlled 115th Congress and President-elect Donald Trump begin to roll out their agendas.
Sanders, the progressive icon who challenged Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination, will sit down with CNN’s Chris Cuomo. The one-hour event will be held at George Washington University on January 9 at 9 p.m. ET and will air on CNN, CNN International and CNN en Español. It also will be live-steamed online and across mobile via CNNgo and CNN SiriusXM channel 116.
Sanders will take questions on major issues facing the nation and will discuss the Democratic strategy for dealing with Trump’s administration. During the primary, Sanders made income and wealth inequality a cornerstone of his campaign, as well as the Democratic Party’s platform as a whole. He also criticized the Democratic National Committee’s handling of the primary process and endorsed the primary opponent of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former DNC chairwoman.

          12. Sometimes they offer closed captioning on CNN. I have had to use CC on

youtube. On YT, you click on the round wheel thingie in the lower right hand corner of the video (Settings) and it will give you the option to click on subtitles.

This particular video had a CC option!

@deadpool is the expert on all things technical and maybe he can help if this does not work!

    14. They scheduled it opposite the national championship.

I have been steaming about that for days. But at least we got something.

        16. Some smart-ass at CNN.

Probably on purpose, as in “we will put him on, but against a big ratings event”.

I HATE the fact they have made me so cynical!
