Establishment Democrats Order Sanders to Fall in Line, Play Nice

Rift between reform oriented progressives and establishment widens
    http://observer.com/2017/02/bernie-sanders-progressives-establishment-democratic-party/

On February 14, an anonymous senator criticized Sen. Bernie Sanders in an interview with The Hill for calling out the 13 Democratic senators who did not support his amendment to export cheaper prescription drugs from Canada and abroad. Additionally, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer scheduled a meeting with Sanders and the senators to chastise Sanders. The Hill reported, “Democratic sources say Schumer convened the meeting not only to salve rankled feelings but also to send a message to the Vermont senator: Play nice with others.” In other words, don’t challenge the Democratic establishment, no matter how corrupt or inept they are. The article and establishment Democrats fail to mention the backlash that Democrats received in response to not supporting that amendment, even before Sanders’ statement.

The Democratic establishment is noticeably anxious in the first few weeks of the Trump administration. Democrats who voted in favor of Trump’s nominees have received immense backlash, and on January 31, thousands of protesters gathered outside Schumer’s apartment to take a stand against the Democratic Party’s weak resistance to Trump.

On January 31, Rep. Adam Schiff warned that Trump was radicalizing the Democratic Party. “The radical nature of this government is radicalizing Democrats, and that’s going to pose a real challenge to the Democratic Party, which is to draw on the energy and the activism and the passion that is out there, but not let it turn us into what we despised about the Tea Party,” Schiff said.

Sanders fired back asserting that the outrage and mobilization on the left in response to Trump and the corrupt Democratic establishment is not comparable to the Tea Party. “It’s not a tea party because the Tea Party was essentially funded by the billionaire Koch brothers family,” Sanders told NBC News’ Chuck Todd on Meet the Press on February 12. “This is a spontaneous and grass-roots uprising of the American people.”

(If I cursed, I would have two words for Schumer and the rest of them :(

    1. Once again their own actions damn them. They blame Bernie for doing his job.

And that once again means they blame us. Go ahead suckers – keep on telling yourselves that you are healing your party. Guess what most of us are already out of your damned party.

    3. Too late, Schum

You sat back and let the Clintons fuck up your party.  Now  it can’t be unfucked.

You want to save it?  Don’t chastise Sanders.  Put him in charge and get the fuck out of his way.

    Oh, and resign.

        8. I wished ours lived in our town.

Definitely would be awesome to have done that. Living in DC would be cool for being able to go to their offices every day…but not really a fan of the flat terrain in DC or the sprawl.

    6. "Rep. Adam Schiff warned that Trump was radicalizing the Democratic Party"

what a buffoon.  ‘radical’ = new deal style politics.  whoa, radical stuff!  the spirit and promise that won ww2.

only compared to the Orwellian kakistocracy we presently inhabit — which is actually far more ‘radical’

    9. If they would listen to Sanders instead of chastising him they could save the

party from suicide. They want power and bluster more than life.

    10. Thank you for posting this….I read it earlier and it made me soooo mad….

then I remembered I am not a democrat and so I don’t give a shit what they do.  I hope Bernie soon sees the light and joins the movement that is trying to draft him to make the 3rd party.

      11. Bernie needs to realize this

“I hope Bernie soon sees the light”

It appears to me that he’s not seeing it tho. I really hate that! I don’t like the fact that Bernie came out as fast as he did to reject the offer for him to help form a 3rd party. He could have allowed this attempt or any other 3rd progressive party attempt to build some steam before he publically made a decision to throw cold water on it. He’s telling s that he’s putting all his eggs in the one damn basket …. the DNC basket and as most of us know, that basket is booby-trapped.

          13. I think a third party is going to happen anyway.

Not too confident Keith is going to get the position. Although I have been wrong in past, but as I said in previous post it seems to me Perez will get shoved down our throats because the establishment says so. I got to talk to the Party Chair in Guam and all he did is listen to me make my pitch for Sam or Keith and all he said is uh huh. Yes. uh huh. Then said thank you and that was it. Others I tried to call were hard to reach. I also got to talk to a member in Arizona and they told me anyone could get the gig including Keith-they haven’t made up their mind yet. Yeah. Sure. So over all my calling did not go as I had hoped. I got discouraged in a hurry.

            14. Snort when is the vote?

You sound very active. Thank you for that. I am not hopeful and in fact I have grown weary of hoping for change.

I think they (the party heads) are hoping we will go away and are watching the polls hoping they sneak in who they really want.

The push on twitter to make Perez the “man” and paint him as cool and a progressive. Not sure how successful they are.

                16. Thank you!!!

Hoping things will calm down a wee bit after democrats realize there is no hope for their party.

        17. I believe Sanders thinks staying in the DNC is the right move for now

It is the ONLY way he can maximize his exposure to the rest of the Country in order to increase his support.  He certainly would not be getting the same media time if he were sitting in a newly-formed third party.  I feel satisfied to see him getting this free media time and waiting until the time is ripe to make a move if he decides to run in 2020.

          18. I agree that Bernie thinks that it is the right move

to hang with the Dem Party. I don’t, however. He accomplished beaucoup exposure during the Dem Primary with the media. Ppl all across this nation learned who Bernie was between 2015-2016. Bernie became the new hot ticket show besides Trump. He’s well known now! It’s my opinion that if he started a new 3rd Party, all eyes would follow his every ‘next’ move. Why? Because he’s a threat to the corporate owned establishment parties. Also because there’s a very thirsty movement out there wanting this to take place! So, knowing how the media zeros in on hot ticket items to boost their own ratings, Bernie and a new 3rd party power bonanza would set the political world on it’s head …. right where it belongs. If Bernie remains under the Dem’s thumb, they’ll eventually smother him and the flame out. Unless we get a few progressive young guns to step up to the plate (in Bernie’s place) and push hard …. very very hard for that new 3rd (anti-corporate) party. Maybe if Bernie saw such young guns pulling together to make that happen, he just might endorse the effort. That would be nice also!
