Important Info On Using Our New Site!

Welcome to JPR’s new home! Some things have changed from the new site, and like any newly-built home there are some oopsies waiting to be found, or at least waiting to be fixed.

    • The most obvious issues involve member accounts. We’ve migrated all of the user names and emails off of the old site, but not the passwords (for security reasons) – your old password won’t work. If you have an existing account, click on the login widget, then click forgot your password?, and a reset link will be sent to the address that we have on file.
    • Login names have been changed to remove spaces – for example, I need to log in as MannyGoldstein instead of Manny Goldstein. We did this so we can mention each other with the @ prefix a la Twitter: if my post contains @marym625, then Mary will get a notification that she’s mentioned. Having spaces in a name breaks this functionality.
    • Some parts of the data migration are continuing right now; in some cases user names might display as blanks. It will all magically fix itself over the next few hours. Please log bugs in the appropriate forum.

If your email address has changed, or you have any issues logging in, please check the FAQs or contact us at [email protected]And most of all, you must send good thoughts towards the deiterrific Matariki who built this amazing site, or your karma will go down by a ton.

More info forthcoming; but for now, go have fun.

    Regards,

    Mary, Matariki, and Manny

      1. And you'll display with the space if you had it

For instance @postremoved will get a notification of their name.  But when they post, it will show Post Removed.

      Thank you @Manny-Goldstein

      6. Sweet!

Donation made for all you guys’ hard work!

Will we be able to modify the look at all? I don’t see much that can be edited in “settings”.

For now, what we got is what we got. Anything in particular that you’d like to see modified, or modifiable?

          10. No, no, thank you!

Maybe skins to change the color? And I’m curious, when I type my post the font is Times New Roman or whatever that is, which I hate, but when it posts it is more like Arial, Calibri or something like that, which I like. Wondering why?

And other little things like profile info… and I was going to pick a different monster avatar but didn’t see where to, saw other ways to change it. Perhaps I haven’t explored enough and haven’t found the right clickables.

            17. Not really a bug. Just a css setting for the editor window

I’m with you on the Times New Roman

Changing skins? Maybe, WAAAAYYY down the road.

The default avatars are totally random. If you see one on someone’s profile that you like better, I’d suggest grabbing it and setting it as your avatar – if you don’t want to upload your own. I’m not sure, I think you’d have to download the one you want and re-upload in in your profile settings.

          42. Any chance we'll be able to change viewing size without using the browser zoom?

A small thing and I’m certainly able to use the browser zoom, but I’d prefer not to do so – if possible. I always have four or more tabs open when I’m online and jump back and forth between things. Using the browser zoom enlarges everything . . . so what fixes this site creates problems on another.

Certainly no rush if it is possible and if it isn’t – well, I’ll adjust.

Once again, thank you all for your extraordinary work creating the new site!

      59. I was feeling homeless, quite devastated….

…haven’t figure out a way to say goodbye to what I once considered my progressive, open-minded, informative, daily news home–a place where I could speak my mind to people of intelligence and integrity, and read their opinions and information; I’m just standing on the road to somewhere else, gazing at its once sheltering architecture and open door, now decrepit and rejecting, its door closed to strangers and friends alike who won’t participate in groupthink–as if my old home had been lost in the Banksters’ mortgage fraud and taken over by a bizarre and smothering and dangerous cult.

I can’t remember who whispered “Jackpine Radicals” in my ear as I slung my backpack over my shoulder and picked up my walking stick and exited that crumbling edifice.  Some kind friend.  And, meanwhile, y’all had been working day and night to re-build a home for homeless democrats with small d’s.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your work at re-creating this site!

I’ve realized, thinking about all this, that I’ve actually felt homeless for a ve-r-r-ry long time.  1967, San Francisco.  My first anti-war march (and, I believe, the first big one in the country).  30,000 people, from all walks of life marching down Market Street to end the War on Vietnam.  To my young self, at that time, it seemed inconceivable that the war could be continued, with so many people marching against it.  That is exactly what I thought that day.  “The war is over!”

But, of course, it wasn’t.  Millions more were to be slaughtered, millions more maimed.  And then, during the lull after it was finally over, it seemed for a while that maybe war itself was over–or at least U.S. war of that destructive magnitude.

Those 30,000 people and the millions who followed them into the streets to protest unjust war, over the years, and the millions who maybe didn’t march but were quietly appalled at unjust war, have been evicted from our home–the country we thought we lived in, a country committed to justice and peace, not a perfect country but one in which justice and peace were generally acknowledged goals and were genuinely pursued.  The next year, after that first big march, both Robert Kennedy, who had turned against that war and was running for president on an anti-war platform, and Martin Luther King, who had gone public with his opposition to that war, were assassinated.

We all should have realized then that we were homeless.  Our country has since become unrecognizable to us, with war after war after war, and our Democratic leaders voting for unjust war, and perpetrating unjust war, and protecting war criminals, and so much else gone wrong.

I thought that that heightened consciousness that I felt, in 1967–the shared experience of 30,000 people that “war is surely over”–was finally dead, assassinated by the “military-industrial complex.”   Then, last year, Bernie Sanders arose out of that same era, somehow with that consciousness still intact, to run for president, and millions arose with him, in a resounding cry for peace and justice.

I see the web site that you have created here as an expression of that consciousness.  It is alive and well.  And I feel like weeping, That consciousness has a home again.  It will continue.

      Thank you!

          90. Back on the other site a group of us got called Vermin by one poster

So one of the more photoshop savy of us decided to create these badges so everyone could know who the vermin on the other site are.

It is kind of an in-joke.

I love this site, love the energy.

Also – wow, I must have been giving DU lots of clicks, because it was my go-to place, and I did not want to miss a thing.  JPR has completely taken its place.  Again, thank you!

You think the only reason that people won't vote for a warmongering Third Way fracking-enabling cluster bomb throwing H-1B increasing lying pandering corporate and Wall Street shill who says she has no problem putting abortion rights on the table is because we are mad about Bernie?  Um, nope.
