Inquiry Points Toward a Pentagon Plot to Subvert Obama’s Syria Policy

Airstrikes by the United States and its allies against two Syrian army positions Sept. 17 killed at least 62 Syrian troops and wounded dozens more. The attack was quickly treated as a non-story by the U.S. news media; U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed the strikes were carried out in the mistaken belief that Islamic State forces were being targeted, and the story disappeared.

The circumstances surrounding the attack, however, suggested it may have been deliberate, its purpose being to sabotage President Obama’s policy of coordinating with Russia against Islamic State and Nusra Front forces in Syria as part of a U.S.-Russian cease-fire agreement.

Normally the U.S. military can cover up illegal operations and mistakes with a pro forma military investigation that publicly clears those responsible. But the air attack on Syrian troops also involved three foreign allies in the anti-Islamic State campaign named Operation Inherent Resolve: the United Kingdom, Denmark and Australia. So, the Pentagon had to agree to bring a general from one of those allies into the investigation as a co-author of the report. Consequently, the summary of the investigation released by CENTCOM on Nov. 29 reveals far more than the Pentagon and CENTCOM brass would have desired.

Thanks to that heavily redacted report, we now have detailed evidence that the commander of CENTCOM’s Air Force component attacked the Syrian army deliberately.

    1. Thank you for the OP. All of us need to know about these idiotic and

dangerous regime changing efforts committed in our name. However,

I doubt very much that Obama did not know about this, since we know

that from the beginning he wanted to get rid of Assad.

    2. I don't buy that theory……

That was no Pentagon plot.  Orders for that “targeting error” came from the administration.  The same administration that was so set on “regime change” in Syria.

      11. Yup

Nobody asked, AFAIK, the all-important question: who gave the order for that very unusual operation? Was it Ash Carter, or somebody lower or higher in the chain of command?

      5. It is a puzzle in many ways..interesting as you say and with Trump coming in

and the intel agencies speaking publicly and in unity that Trump should accept/trust them…this is going to get even more interesting.

Best question in the OP has no clear answer….who is in charge in Washington?

    4. Garett Porter nails it again. The Russia bashing makes moer sense through the

lens of theRussian and Syrian victory in Aleppo and the stunning defeat of the US attempt to defeat Assad. It is the rage of a humiliated declining empire looking to cast blame on anyone but itself. There is a lot of that going on in Washington right now.

      8. It does seem so….

The MIC/Intelligence community was banking on Hillary & Bill sailing in.  Hillary was already attacking Russia in her campaign which signaled where she would go as President.  The Democrats have still not let up on blaming Putin and Assange for interfering in the Election and even Obama has attacked Russia.

The internal wrangling must be growing very vicious.  With Hillary as President all could be covered up indefinitely.  Now they have a loose cannon as President and a public they still can’t manage to get on board to punish Russia no matter how many Red Baiting/McCarthyite tactics they use in the constant MSM cable and newsprint coverage.

      As you say:

It is the rage of a humiliated declining empire looking to cast blame on anyone but itself. There is a lot of that going on in Washington right now.

        9. Yep. Ms " sure thing's" loss was a big monkey wrench.

Now they have only two weeks to start their coveted war with Russia, fabricate even wilder stories of Russia stealing our election or eliminating Trump. Nothing would surprise me. Cornered rats and rattlesnakes are quite dangerous.
