Lake Tahoe Weather…
After a small break, it is still raining in Carson City. We are hoping to dry out later in the week.
I have lived in the Northern Nevada area for over 30 years, and what they are reporting is blizzard conditions in the Lake Tahoe area. What designates a blizzard? Snow with winds in excess of 35 mph and visibility of less than a quarter mile for an extended period of time, I.e., 3 hours or more. The meteorologist reporting said this was a rare event.
At least 2 feet of snow has fallen in the last 24 hours in North Lake Tahoe area, the cities of Incline Village and Crystal Bay have been advised to shelter in place and not leave their homes due to the potential for severe avalanches in the area. I do not ever remember this happening, and I have witnessed several severe weather events in the past.
Even though Incline Village is the most expensive property in the state, it holds a special place in my heart because I attended Sierra Nevada College, which is a very competent institution. I have seen quite a bit of snow there but this seems unusual.
I remember seeing photos of snow up to rooftops at Tahoe but I never witnessed it since I’ve been here. This year maybe different.
