US ground troops first became involved in Syria in Autumn 2015 when then President Barack Obama sent in a small number of special forces to train and advise local Kurdish fighters who were fighting IS.
The US did this reluctantly after several attempts at arming anti-IS groups had descended into chaos. (emphasis mine)
Reluctantly? WTF? Obama couldn’t wait to get boots on the ground in Syria. He was all over the poison gas attacks that were never proven to have been done by the Assad regime. All for humanitarian intervention, he was. Surely I am not the only one to remember this?
