Well, Venezuela nationalized theirs years ago under Chavez, and AMLO is saying he's considering doing the same thing in Mexico.

So yes, that is definitely part of what’s going on. Guyana and Venezuela have been having border disputes since the 19th Century, back when Guyana was British Guiana. I would be surprised if that is not a factor as well. Plus the Guyanese government just changed, so there is probably something going on between Exxon and the new government.
Still lots of questions; I just hope our own imperialists don’t use this to beat more war drums against Venezuela.
