A General Statement Concerning Site Rules

The Corona Virus is bad enough without it being used as a weapon.
We realize that this issue brings out the real differences between those we regard as asshats, and those that take the lives of ordinary people as a paramount part of the relationship between their government and those people that it governs.
We realize, all too well, that it is incredibly desirous to sling arrows at the asshats as individuals based on their political and/or moral positions.
But therein lies the problem. It isn’t the individual that needs to leave this world permanently, it’s THE POLITICS that needs to leave the world permanently.
We have a rule regarding the desire to wish ill upon an individual, NO MATTER WHAT INDIVIDUAL. It is forbidden. And that rule is iron clad as far as the admins of this site are concerned.
We have noticed a number of posts being made wishing the virus to cause harm and even death to their favorite hated politicians and/or business persons. That is not going to be tolerated. Ever.
Look, I fucking hate Donald Trump as an individual, but I despise the politics he champions. I would love for his politics to expire and leave this Earth forthwith. And this crappy assed virus is bringing out the inhumanity of those positions, and his inability to lead us in response to it.
It is not O-K to wish the person harm on JPR, but it is encouraged, even to wish that their policies, politics and positions on issues to die a non-lingering but seriously painful demise. The sooner they die, the better, but I’d like to see them, the great Republican policies and worldviews, to suffer the way they have made the vast majority of people to suffer.
This announcement is being posted to inform everyone that this rule is being enforced. We are currently asking members to either remove the offensive part of the post. If they don’t or refuse to, then we will delete the post and issue a warning. Warnings have consequences if they add up.

I don’t think they are a bad person and they’ve never given me cause to be concerned. They may not have even realized their words were causing strong reactions.
What is your preferred move? Talk them down, or report and let the mods handle it.
I think I know the answer, but others might want your guidance.

concerned educated and reasoning individuals here. So, we expect that members would push back on those grave dancing. But let’s make one thing perfectly clear here:
Push back isn’t an attack.
Push back isn’t a heated exchange between members at any time.
So, I would think that membership resistance to such postings to be firm but not attacks. There is no need whatsoever for this to become personal to individuals on the boards. That is also not allowed here. But like jee wizz, you always have the right and ability to ask a member to modify a posting you find offensive. We, as mods and admins, do that all the time when we receive notices of violations. We always strive to take any personal feelings out of the equation. But it is never appropriate to just up and make it personal and attack one another.
So, in a way, members can help us deal with lots of things in two ways. On the boards and in reports. I assure you that we truly appreciate all the member input to the civility of the boards and that will never change.
My personal preferred move would be for members to do both. Go ahead and take charge on a clear violation if you want to, just don’t make it personal. And, if you see a violation, by all means, report it. Please. Even if you want to try and have the post modified or perhaps taken down by the poster, that shouldn’t stop you from reporting the post. We need the info to keep this a place that is what it is supposed to be. A place where individuals actually care about each other and want to talk about some of the most personal yet global concerns between methods of governance and economics. And not go off the deep end.
Does that make any sense @willyt ??

Just copy and paste.

Someone should take you to task for the mean things you said about Deadpool!
Seriously, I think I get it. If I step over the line – and maybe I have – then I hope someone tells me. I’ve got some, err, favorite politicians who I may some times say extreme things about.
I’ve also said I’m sharpening the blade for my guillotine – but for the record, I dont actually have a guillotine. I do wish my, err, favorite political people the experience of prison, or being drafted to do humanitarian work, but not actual bodily harm, most of the time. If I do wish it, I will try to remember not to say it here.
Appreciate the clarification. Now say you’re sorry to Deadpool, old man.

a variety of politicians, one in particular…. Then I think of my karma and then I nip it in the bud. What goes around does come around, for us as well as them.
I feel much better since I gave up hope.

….primarily because they would then become MY problem, for all eternity!!
But it’s hard not to apply thoughts of karmic retribution in the general direction of those who continue to shill for a corporate insurance industry which is literally KILLING Americans right now, in real time.
