Barack Obama was not part of the “Third Way” crowd and was someone who could rouse a crowd (“Yes, we can!’) and took specific positions on issues. He won twice.

That might be a reasonable description of “Campaign Obama” and indeed explains how he beat her in the primary. Unfortunately, the ACTUAL President Obama turned out to be just another Turd Wayer, after all.  As was his VP… which brings us up to the present fiasco.

He was much, much worse than Hillary in many ways. Not the least that we all knew what we were getting from Clinton,  Mr. TPP was always there to sell out the base.

Same as how in 2016 Hillary Clinton was rejected by the voters, and the Republican nominee won.

One more way to frame the results is that McCain, Romney, and Clinton, all inherited the legacy of the public rejecting the war mongering of the last President of their party. Though in Clinton’s case she’d been extra instrumental in the bloodshed.

McCain had been involved in policy near the end of Bush’s term, but he hadn’t started the Iraq war, or managed it.

In 2012 Obama managed to seem less hawkish than Romney, especially when he mocked him for wanting to reignite cold war era fears and hostility regarding Russia. After he won he was able start butting heads with Russia, and with Clinton leading the way the Obama administration could send Libya into chaos and misery, and then funnel that chaos into Syria, which had good relations with Russia.

I think, though, the Obamas are too rich to want to get their hands dirty.  Again.
