After GOP Repeatedly Blocked Vote on $2,000 Checks, 41 Democrats Joined McConnell to Advance $740 Billion Pentagon Bill

After Senate Republicans repeatedly stymied a Sen. Bernie Sanders-led effort to force a clean up-or-down vote on $2,000 direct payments, dozens of Democrats late Wednesday joined Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in allowing the chamber to move ahead with the process of overriding President Donald Trump’s veto of the $740 billion National Defense Authorization Act.
The vote on the motion to proceed to the NDAA veto override came after Sanders, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), and others denied McConnell unanimous consent this week to speedily advance the behemoth military spending bill, a tactic aimed at securing a clean vote on House-passed legislation that would deliver $2,000 payments to most Americans.
But McConnell, joined by Sens. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas), rejected demands for a vote on the direct payments once again on Wednesday, declaring that the checks would benefit “millionaires and billionaires”—a complaint that was both false and shamelessly hypocritical, given that the same Republicans had no issue with passing President Donald Trump’s $1.5 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy in 2017.
Thanks to the delay tactics that Sanders spearheaded, McConnell was forced to hold a vote Wednesday on a formal motion to proceed to the NDAA. But ultimately, Sanders was one of just six members of the Senate Democratic caucus to vote against the motion, which succeeded by an overwhelming margin of 80-12.

progressives standing out, here and there. ALL those votes are coordinated by Pelosi and Schumer and McConnell and McCarthy. Kabuki theater at its most harmful and duplicitous.

The Dems should have voted in favor of Mitch’s $2,000 bill poison pills and all. It was just a bluff. 230 would never go away. The high tech filthy rich would sue and since it is also in 90% of our free trade agreements, they would win.
And who cares if they investigate the election? Investigate to your heart’s content.
The Dems should have voted for the Mitch bluff bill.

Proof positive the only people that matter are the Oligarchs, Corporations and Banks. Always remember that the likes of Gates and Bezos have billion dollar contracts with DOD.

Sens. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) joined the Vermont senator in opposing the motion. Six Republicans also voted no.
In total, 41 Democrats—including Schumer and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris—voted for the motion, paving the way for an override of Trump’s NDAA veto and effectively killing the prospect of a vote on $2,000 direct payments before the next Congress. View the full roll call here.
That’s from the article. Had one less Democrat joined with Bernie then the Republicans would have been the majority in that minority of dissenters.
Though Bernie only caucuses with the Democrats, and (in more ways than one) is not a member of that party.

Why all of you are so up in the air. But for me – I have not received one single large check and will not. The way I get help is through a tiny bit of each of these bills that gave states money to add to the food stamp program for those who get stamps. That lifted me from $25 a month to about $150 a month. When they vote for this bill it is not just helping those who cannot pay for their rent (despite the fact that the amount is laughable) they are also helping people on food stamps and children in families that are eligible for free lunches during the period that they are not going to school. That is why I do not get angry because someone voted for a piss poor bill in the end.
I read all about not voting for Ds but very little about the Rs. When are we going to start building a 3rd party that can win and give us someone we can vote for?

What is really amazing to me is the people who just had to vote for Biden where are they? When are Americans going to say enough? When are we going to go after the elite if we actually did that they would pee in their pants because not one of them has any guts. Their greed is so overwhelming they would shove their children in the fire before themselves. I felt so good standing in the streets this summer listening to the black white and brown youth talk about what was happening they get it, they get who the cops are ,and also who the elite are. On the other side are the hand wringers but but butters and those who don’t want their soft world to change. I would rather see it change on my terms then when somebody out side this country says enough and they will.
