The virus is still here and it’ll mutate if it’s not killed.  The 2 million dead number is derived from the infection rate and death rate of covid-19 applied to the U.S. population.  It’s simple math and simple science.  But FUCK ALL THAT, go get drunk at the beach and who cares if a couple million die, who needs a social conscience in a country led by psychopaths.  Support your local death trap businesses that’ll lie about everything because they’re desperate to survive in a country without a social safety net.  Let’s change the “In God We Trust” on our currency to “Genocides Are Us”.

40 million lost their jobs.  Will lead to at least 200,000 more deaths (lack of health insurance).  More food insecurity and more deaths from malnutrition, depression, and effects of lock down.  Bur heck no!  Let us star hunkered down for one more year due to some model predicting 1 million deaths.

christo-fascists, and Trump supporters to the greatest degree possible, and have developed strategies for doing so.

However, I live in near a small town tourist mecca in a western red state and yesterday the maskless fucks were elbow to elbow in the expensive hotels and bars because of the holiday. They are leaving tons of filthy trash near my beautiful creeks and everywhere else in the woods, along with leaving their infections behind for the poor local working folks who they have totally pissed off with their lack of consideration and respect.

So I’m staying home for now and for a few days after the selfish pigs leave, and plan join the awesome forest service folks and volunteers in picking up after these thoughtless, selfish toddlers in adult bodies.

They have no respect for anyone, or anything.

They simply don’t care about anyone else but themselves.

      It’s hopeless.

That’s hardly genocide, which is the deliberate extermination of a particular class of people.

You can say it’s gross negligence, and that the death toll could have been significantly lowered, but it’s definitely not genocide.

As for the local “death trap” businesses, what the hell else do you expect them to do but reopen when they are getting no help in staying closed? The government tells them to shut down, but they have to keep paying their bills. The government costs millions their jobs with the lockdown orders, but then tells them they’ll lose their unemployment if they refuse to go back to work once the lockdown is lifted.

In those conditions, a small business owner choosing to reopen and an employee choosing to go back to work, risking a less than a 0.006% chance of dying, according to your own math, versus a 100% chance of the destruction of their livelihoods is perfectly reasonable. Then there are the essential workers such as myself and my stepdaughter, required to go out into the general public 40 hours a week, who are then told by some people that we are horrible selfish assholes if we go out to eat at a local restaurant, which I suppose you would call a death trap.

Well, we’re still here and we’re not going to get sick with this thing again. So are a lot of those small business owners and their employees, and they’re not worried about it, either. The pandemic arrived in November, and lockdowns didn’t even start until March. It had been spreading for four months.

If you can’t see why the attitude expressed in your OP causes resentment or worse in millions, you must be privileged indeed. Think, please. I thought leftists were supposed to have some empathy.

impotence in 20% of all men under 65 who get infected, there would be armed patrols in hazmat suits on every street in the US, making sure that no one left their house unless it was an emergency, and if they did leave their house without a mask, they’d be arrested and thrown in the slammer, no questions asked.

But since  the virus only mostly kills a bunch of old people, and heck, let’s face it,  a lot of them ain’t white folks anyway, the hardhearted among the population don’t really give a shit.  Ain’t me. ain’t my problem.

Until, goddess forbid, they, their wife, their husband, their child, or parent, gets really sick and dies.

Then reckoning comes, and it’s epiphany time. OMG, OMG, I’m so sorry about telling people to go out and risk getting infected or infecting others! I didn’t realize how awful this disease is.

        Closed Cases
        556,916Cases which had an outcome:

        457,232 (82%)

        Recovered / Discharged

        99,684 (18%)

        Deaths
And we still don’t know if there are long term effects that have not manifested yet.

This post didn’t address a single point I made. All this crap does is distract attention from the fact that huge sections of the working and middle class economy is being deliberately and systematically destroyed by the federal government, and the fact that every single Democrat is just as complicit as the Republicans, based on their votes.

I find this trend all over social media, including the You Tube shows and JPR, from people who don’t have to go out into the pandemic insulting and infuriating. It’s amazing how many people are talking thru their respective asses because they have no clue what they are talking about. And I’m done with this.

Edited to remove phrase written in second person.

It disproportionately victimizes the poor and people of color, both medically and economically, further fattens the wallets of the rich, and feeds on a deadly cocktail of ignorance, selfishness, and financial desperation.

while celebrating a meaningless holiday.  Some people think it proper and virtuous to go to work to support their families.   While endangering themselves and their families by doing so.

these bad outcomes are framed as a choice between irreconcilable opposites, as if we can only choose the lesser of 2 evils (like in elections lol)

But it’s a false choice, pre-selected for us by POWER.

Our leaders have the power to take others paths, already existent, paths taken by other leaders in other places.

      Our leaders chose this one.

Why they chose this path we can’t be sure, but the consequences are pretty clear.

However, that’s on them, and we can judge them, and check or punish them for it if we choose to do the work, and that’s on us.

@ohiobarbarian This seems to be the only site where both sides can discuss the issue without having the two sides:  Orange bad – Covid19 is fake, being the only two choices.  If you are privileged enough to stay 6 months without working, more power to you. Most people do not have the luxury, and condemning their choice to go to work is terrible.

Instead of shoveling endless wealth from our tax coffers to the filthy rich, that money could have gone to helping the average American stay home. Instead Trump and Congress did almost next to nothing for the average American. Then they wonder why their precariously perched top heavy capitalist con has tumbled to the ground. Then they force everyone to decide what will they risk –  their health or their financial future.

It did not have to be such a miserable choice. We could have been more like New Zealand instead of like Brazil or Italy.

Now Trump is vice signaling and all the belligerent facist fools come out to celibrate their imagined immunity. Because only those other people get the disease, and a few grandfathers, not us white faced young facist. Until they do get it and then it is a different story.

Also be careful if you imagine you have immunity. Get an antibodies test it may surprise you. Even if you do have any antibodies, they won’t last long….maybe 2 to 6 months…..maybe. Not all viruses can build herd immunity. Some side affects of the virus are hidden. Sometimes the virus hides inside you to come out later and do more damage. It’s not your regular flu virus.

I do think the filthy rich want to cull the herd so they let this virus and this crappy economy crumble. They are fine. They have a squad of people following them around wiping and cleaning all around them. They have their safe castles and playgrounds already set up to hide in when worse things come.

We are left to choose between 2 horrible possibilities. It didn’t have to be this way.

There should have been a UBI passed with the first stimulus, instead of a big corporate bailout.

It’s understandable that people choosing between work and starving would work, even with a risk.

What isn’t understandable is the people congregating en mass at bars and pool parties.

In 2003 I had a bout with SARS, and if goes to pneumonia like mine did, it takes about three months to get over the virus if properly diagnosed.

Then it took another six months to get my stamina back. That took some guidance from a Physical Therapist.

To this day I scar tissue in my lungs which means decreased lung capacity.

The people who got extremely ill form Covid-19 carry this for the rest of their lives.

If you cannot dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit WC Fields
