Lisa Montgomery was executed this morning. Here is an op-ed written by her sister.

      Trump priorities!

All governments lie to their citizen's, but only Americans believe theirs.

To murder more prisoners. I guess I was wrong.

Lisa Montgomery did a horrible thing but the state murdering her helped in no way. The death sentence does not deter crime. It does not bring justice and it provides no relief for the victims.

It is just a show of state power to remind us all what the state can and will do to any citizen it determines is a criminal.

It serves no purpose.Life in prison for heinous crimes should suffice.

I thought she had been granted a stay of execution by two different courts.

“There’s a new spirit abroad in the land. The old days of ‘grab and greed’ are on their way out. We’re beginning to think of what we owe the other fellow, not just what we’re compelled to give him. The time’s coming… when we shan’t be able to fill our bellies in comfort while others go hungry, sleep in warm beds while others shiver in the cold.... And God willing, we’ll live to see that day…” Basil Rathbone,"Sherlock Holmes Faces Death" (Universal 1943)
