US Reps Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Marc Pocan have issued a resolution opposing the sale of $735m in US weapons to the Israeli government.

The resolution has six co-sponsors and is supported by more than 70 civil rights organisations, the lawmakers announced on 19 May.

It follows reports of Joe Biden’s approval of the sale of precision-guided weapons to Israel on 5 May, a week before the current rise in violence, amid growing demands across the US and among Democratic lawmakers for the president to pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to issue a ceasefire and end the forced removal of Palestinian families in Jerusalem.

“For decades, the US has sold billions of dollars in weaponry to Israel without ever requiring them to respect basic Palestinian rights,” the New York congresswoman said in a statement on Wednesday. “In so doing, we have directly contributed to the death, displacement and disenfranchisement of millions.”

Six.  Yet people somehow believe progressive change can come from within this system?  People like Trump and Bush get elected because, frankly, the democrats (the majority of them) in office lack the nerve to stand up for anything.

The only genuine “progressive” legislation that has gained momentum recently is the proposal for Medicare for all.  The same one that Biden vowed to veto.

The speaker is just as bad as the President.  Frankly, the people like Sanders and AOC who should have been our leaders, are rejected by the party.

Maybe it is time for them to return the favor.  Say what you want about change from within – it has been obvious for decades that we need something different.

Unfortunately, I think that is not a possibility.  The system is hopelessly corrupt and controlled by cowards and sycophants – but they have the money, the media – and most of the votes.

It will have to break before things get better.  Meanwhile, everyone not in the proper class gets to suffer the consequences.

If progressives want to make a difference, they need to find the nerve to break with the democrats and actually oppose them.

I think it is far more likely though, that the right is going to start winning more elections.

And that’s not just Jimmy Dore saying that; it’s also Kyle Kulinski, who was one of the original founders. Progressives don’t change the Democrats. Democrats, and the whole atmosphere of being in a corrupt Congress, change the progressives. They still talk a good game, and they introduce legislation, then throw up their hands and say there’s nothing more they can do when it gets killed.

And that’s some serious bullshit right there. They’ve missed chance after chance to derail Biden and the Corruptocrats’ plans. They can change party affiliation, but they won’t.

The YouTube host circuit I ignore.

I also have been boycotting that Hill Rising show. I couldn’t decide which was worse that show or Hannity & Colmes?

I do appreciate that Krystal Ball shared that video of the 10 year old in Palestine.

This OP contradicts that earlier story that AOC was going to sell out like Obama & Warnock on this issue.

Comparing Hill Rising to Hannity and Colmes? Come now, Saagar Enjeti is a conservative, but he’s not a raving lunatic like Hannity was, nor is he a worshipper of the nonexistent “free market.” Plus, he’s a fair journalist and I think he’s honest. Krystal Ball has far bigger balls than that weasely Colmes ever did. If anything, Krystal’s ideology dominates the show more than Saagar’s, and they’re both democratic populists in their respective ways.

Oh, that’s right. Populism is supposed to be bad now. I don’t think it is. It’s a noun, not an adjective, which is how Democrats treat the word. They gaslight every time they utter the word. What we need is progressive populism, and we’ll never, ever get that from the Democratic Party. It’s simply too corrupt.

I’m not boycotting any You Tube shows; there are just some I seldom look up on my own anymore, like The Humanist Report and the Rational National, after they started shilling for Biden on every damned segment last fall. David Doel and his “voting is a tool and if you don’t understand that, you’re an idiot” approach. Well, this idiot stopped listening to that Canadian tell me how I should view voting.

Damn. I’ve gotta go. I was just starting to have fun, but we’re out of cat food. I do enjoy going back and forth with you, though.

Like I said earlier Krystal Ball moved to Washington DC to 2016 to work on Joe Biden’s campaign but he never ran. Her excuse was he would have ran to the left of Hillary. Not if you look at his record. We didn’t need Rising to get as far as we did.

I stopped watching the show because they were bashing the NBA. Saagar agreed with Obama when he told them to go back to work. Also like a typical conservative he was telling me what I want to see in Sports.

Saagar also said that these guys won’t support a wealth tax and he was wrong.

I could come up with numerous examples of things he’s said with which I disagree. I can come up with fewer examples of things Krystal Ball, or David Doel for that matter, have said with which I disagree.

These individual examples are really kind of missing the point. I used to enjoy what William F. Buckley liked to say back in the day, too, though I disagreed with him most of the time. At least he was rational, even if I disagreed with some of his presuppositions.

I did watch her video that you posted because it was worth watching.

The reason why I quit watching had nothing to do with AOC. I addressed Kyle Kulinski which is why I mainly address Jimmy Dore since Secular Talk is just a cog in the ecosystem. I did like Secular Talk during the Bush & Obama years and up until the aftermath of the 2020 primary.

He is one of the many of the commentators who became worse during the Trump years.

I would read that link about Igoudala. I’m more interested in his commentary especially since he supports a wealth tax.

they lost all their power. Everything since is just bullshit platitudes and talk. For all intents and purposes, Pelosi, Schumer, Biden, Harris are Republican Bibi bootlickers. If any of the CPC had any guts whatsoever, they’d abandon the Dems in mass and form their own party. Wondering bigly how #JoeMentia is better than the #Pumpkin Fuhrer. He certainly isn’t when it comes to foreign policy.

So did Cori Bush. AOC was with Cori Bush then she went to Pelosi and after that they both voted for Pelosi. I knew months in advance they were going to vote for Pelosi. The Democrat who hates Socialism and used to work for the CIA didn’t vote for Pelosi so I’d rather have Pelosi in their corner rather than Spanberger.

They think it’s enough just to introduce legislation when they have no leverage whatsoever. They never hold  up anything the Democrat leadership wants in order to force through progressive policy in exchange for their cooperation on something else.

So no, it’s not even a start. It’s an illusion.

When we had Bernie & Kucinich. Unlike the Squad Kucinich was easily dismissed as a “kook” (not by me) and they would often bring up the fact Kucinich saw a UFO which is ironic considering the news the last couple of days.

I’m happier that we have Bernie as Budget Chairman and The Squad in addition to the progressives we already have such as Barbara Lee & Raul Grivalja.

It really does not matter what they say or propose. They are

used to keep so called progressives in line. Just as some weird

Repugs are kept for show. The corporate Uniparty just as their

media permits dissention only at the fringes.

      And hate Trump.

Tupac Shakur on Inequality, Greed, and Donald Trump

      (Snip)

In that same year, Sanders said in a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives, in response to Bush’s ‘tough on crime’ rhetoric, “How do we get to the root causes of crime? … Lets deal with the causes of crime. Lets not keep putting poor people into jail and disproportionally punishing blacks.”

Sanders’ sentiment sounds awfully similar to “Changes,” one of Tupac’s best known tracks with lyrics, “It ain’t a secret, don’t conceal the fact. The penitentiaries packed and they filled with blacks … Instead of a war on poverty, we got a war on drugs so police can bother me.”

      (Snip)

“This world is such a gimme, gimme, gimme, everybody back off place. You’re taught that in school and in big business if you want to be successful, if you want to be like Trump, it’s ‘Gimme, gimme, gimme. Push, push, push. Step, step, step. Crush, crush, crush.”

      (Snip)

“Can you imagine this person has $32 million dollars? $32 million dollars. And this person has nothing. And you can sleep?” The rapper goes on with his populist rhetoric to say, “These are the type of people who get humanitarian awards. Millionaires. How can they be humanitarians when the fact that they millionaires and there’s so many poor people shows how inhumane they are. And that bugs me.”

I remember he said he wanted to overthrow the government of Bad Boy Records and feed every child in New York City. If anyone knows anything about Bad Boy Records that is P. Diddy.

Nina Turner receives unexpected endorsement from Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in race for Ohio’s 11th Congressional seat

        @jonlp

His mom (Afeni Shakur) was one of the Panther 21

She represented herself in court (at age 22) and *won* the case for everyone.  It took the jury less than an hour to acquit (because Shakur outed one of the undercover people under oath and got him to admit he actually instigated the actions the Panthers were on trial for.)  There were 3 undercover agents in that Panther cell and none of them knew the others were government agents.

“The District Attorney read Chairman Mao Zedong’s Little Red Book and showed the court the movie The Battle of Algiers (alleging it was the Panthers’ ‘training film’.  At the time, the eight-month trial was the longest and most expensive in New York State history.

Shakur chose to represent herself in court, pregnant (with Tupac) while on trial and facing a 300-year prison sentence and had not attended law school. Shakur interviewed witnesses and argued in court.

One of the people Shakur cross-examined was Ralph White, one of the three suspects who actually was an undercover agent. White was someone whom she had suspected all along of being a cop, since he had been inciting others to violence.

She got White to admit under oath that he and the other two agents had organized most of the unlawful activities. She also got White to admit to the court that the activism that they had done together was “powerful, inspiring, and … beautiful”. Shakur asked Mr. White if he had misrepresented the Panthers to his police bosses. He said “Yes”.  She asked if he had betrayed the community. He said “Yes.”

Did Congress basically pass a bill saying “Here’s money for guns.”, and Biden gets to decide who gets them?

What I’m getting at is; why is a resolution needed, and when did this sale get approval, or does it still need to be approved?

Alright, I had to check in case the answer was too obvious. It wasn’t, lol.

      https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/05/17/power-up-biden-administration-approves-735-million-weapons-sale-israel-raising-red-flags-some-house-democrats/

The administration is required to inform Congress of such sales, although official notification generally comes only after Congress has informally agreed. Once the formal notification is made, lawmakers have 15 days to object with a nonbinding resolution of disapproval.

      and

A spokesperson for the House Foreign Affairs Committee confirmed that Congress was notified on May 5 of the commercial deal in which Boeing will provide the weapons to Israel. But some Foreign Affairs lawmakers were caught off guard over the weekend when they first learned of the sale, according to a source with knowledge of the private conversations.

      • “We’re lucky to catch this weapons sale, a Democratic aide who works on the committee told Power Up. “There’s zero transparency on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and sensitive deals are regularly approved without scrutiny, the aide added of the committee chaired by Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (D-N.Y.).
