Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) decried the decision to suspend Sha’Carri Richardson from the Olympics last week after the sprinter had tested positive for cannabis in her system.

The New York congresswoman then went on to criticize the decision of the International Olympic Committee on another matter. “This ruling [Richardson’s ban from the Olympics] along w/ IOC denial of swim caps for natural hair is deeply troubling,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.

That comment references a recent decision by Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), the governing body that oversees international competitive swimming, that a swim cap designed by Soul Cap specifically for swimmers with voluminous hair (particularly Black swimmers), would not be allowed at the summer games this year.

The company said its application for consideration of the specially made swim cap was “rejected on registration,” which means they were not even allowed to appeal the decision. FINA defended the decision by saying that international swimmers “never used, neither require to use, caps of such size and configuration” that Soul Cap had designed, adding that the cap didn’t follow “the natural form of the head.”

then I would say she would have an unfare advantage.  Drink all the fucking alcohol you want, but oh my god a little weed and she expelled from competing in the Olympic games.  Stupid beyond reasoning!

Am I the only one who doesn’t feel sorry for this runner? The policy might be unfair, outdated blah blah blah but it’s still the policy! If you want to go to the Olympics, don’t fail the drug test. She or her coach had to have known the policy. Why do they need to make an exception for her if everybody else is following it? Just because she is American and might win gold? Whatever.  Start now to get them to change it for the next Olympics.

Want to make a difference, AOC? Tell Joe Biden you won’t vote for anything he wants until he does something to legalize recreational marijuana at the federal level. Crying over one athlete, just because she is black and female, does nothing except to feed into the bullshit racialist narrative and to distract attention away from issues and policies that actually impact the lives of most Americans.

Distraction is the whole point of this latest AOC exercise. That, and selling her celebrity politician brand.

I think this rule is brain dead stupid. Now is as good a time as any to scrap it. I see no earthly reason why there is any need to hold off until next time. Besides, it is a part of the larger issue that drug tests shouldn’t even test for weed anymore.

But leave it to AOC to dumb this down into another woke off; she’s nothing if not predictable, and the act is very played out. Everybody knows perfectly well that this has nothing to do with racism, much less colonialism. It’s such a silly non sequitur that it doesn’t even deserve a rebuttal from anyone.

I don’t particularly like how the racial angle is being tossed around on this. It’s almost like unintentionally perpetuating a popular racial stereotype that black people are more likely to do drugs than white people. Even though it’s true the drug war tends to target minorities more than whites, I’m not sure this particularly applies in this situation since white athletes are tested in the same frequency as people of color, and violations would be equally applied to a white person.

Hosting the Games bankrupts cities and fosters a police state that stays in those cities forever.

The games should be held in Greece every 4 years (and no one should care who wins IMHO). Leave taxpayers out of the eugenics and fascism.
