Passing this on from Fairfax, Va. – primary source information

My son is a nurse in the neurology wing of Fairfax Hospital in the suburbs of Virginia.  His normal charter is to deal with stroke patients.  Just got word that Covid-19 patients are being assigned to all wards of the hospital so that health care professionals in the hospital can care for these patients.  Due to the shortage of masks, protective gear, gowns, etc. they are only allowed to wear this gear when they are treat a covid patient……tbc….

not that I’m the clairvoyant but I could have predicted this would happen…..thank you for listening and being here PP

That is close to us.  I’m told it’s top notch hospital system, but I feel your concern.

Concerned for all the reasons – lack of protective gear (as if this was new), and mixing the virus patients with the stroke patients….Thanks for reassuring me about the caliber of the hospital which does deal with a lot of (political/military) vips.

and only a guess is the space but I haven’t a clue…You probably know the trends in Virginia better than I but I’ve noticed that schools have been closed down for the rest of the school years.  My son really enjoys what he does.  I just saw that 391 cases are within the state and elective surgeries have been postponed….I certainly hope that they are being proactive rather than reactive.   I just saw this update – Fairfax County has 76 cases, the highest in the state…..The disease has yet to hit sparsely populate areas; the prevalence in this area is probably spill-over from DC.

My experience with that hospital is absolute positivity…wonderful treatment with exceptional personnel…the nurses and doctors are top notch. My vascular surgeon saved my leg…

I hope they all stay safe and I can understand your concern. *hugs*

There is a term for hospital-based pneumonia differentiated from community acquired pneumonia.  I wonder if we will end up with a hospital-based coronavirus – I saw the story today of healthcare workers having to use Hefty bags because medical protective gear wasn’t available.
