The MORE Act, the first legalization bill to make it to the floor of Congress, would decriminalize marijuana at the federal level, and begin to give back to the communities hit hardest by the War on Drugs
Hurry Up and lets get this right once and for all!!!
snip-
The House of Representatives passed the MORE Act on Friday by a vote of 228-164. The vote fell largely along party lines, with 6 Democrats voting against the bill and 5 Republicans voting for it. The chamber’s sole Independent, Rep. Justin Amash, voted for it.
“I’m so proud that the MORE Act passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 228 to 164,” House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) tweeted after the vote went final. “I introduced this bill to provide restorative justice, modernize America’s cannabis laws, and deliver meaningful investments to America’s communities & small businesses. Now, let’s make it a law.”

She says they made Republicans nervous and forced them to spend money. OK, Cheri. If you say so.

This bill originated in the Democratic controlled House, after all.

Correct about those red state voters. The rules of the culture war dictate that prohibited behavior is prohibited for others, not for me. After 50 years of covertly sparking up, Republican voters are tired of hiding. Many of them want it legalized, and they may put pressure on their Republican senators to solve their problem.

….and continued conservative resistance to marijuana decriminalization might prove to be a ‘losing’ strategy for some red state Senators……
The Chance for Marijuana Legalization Rests In Georgia
Just when we thought election season was over, supporters of marijuana legalization are gearing up for one last major fight of the season. That is because the last hope for full cannabis legalization at the federal level fully depends on the outcome of two special elections for U.S. Senate in Georgia on January 3, 2021. Simply put, if the Democratic candidates win both of these seats, flipping control of the U.S. Senate to the Democrats, legalization supporters will have their best opportunity to end the decades long disastrous policy of cannabis prohibition. A Republican victory in either one of these elections means there is little to no chance of federal legalization until at least 2023, and likely much longer. After all, the party in control of the White House typically loses seats in Congress in midterm elections, making the prospects of unified Democratic government after the 2022 elections narrow at best.
It is worth saying that it shouldn’t have to be this way. Marijuana legalization is not a heavily partisan issue. It enjoys widespread support nationwide, with the most recent Gallup poll finding 68% of Americans support legalizing marijuana for adults, including 48% of Republicans and 49% of self-identified conservatives. In this past election, legalization was passed by voters in every state where it was on the ballot, all by convincing margins. This included win tallies of 54% in deep red South Dakota, 57% in conservative Montana, and a whopping 60% in now purple Arizona.

That’s why I’ve been saying that Biden will probably “evolve” on this issue and legalize it if the opportunity presents itself. There’s not anything else that polls well and does not threaten corporate power, and he’ll be expected to do something. The 80s and 90s are long gone, and pot has no power as a wedge issue anymore. The states are slowly but surely legalizing it one by one. It’s going to happen sooner rather than later. All the signs are there.

Crybaby Boner became a big cannabis fan a couple of years back. He might be able to drag some Republican senators over the line.

They need to donate to more republicans so that Mitch can take it up in the senate. They really have the money to push it through!

@satan don’t you have a “hotline” to John BONER down there. It wouldn’t take much temptation to get John to lobby his old buds to pass this one!
