I watched a Tim Black video today posted by @haikugal . As usual, I agree with Tim, and I’d like to add some of my own thoughts. I remember reading about Rosa Parks when she was asked why she refused to go to the back of the bus in the Jim Crow South, and she said, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.” That pretty much sums it up.

Millions of Americans support Bernie because we have been screwed over by the American capitalist system for most, if not all, of our lives. We’ve seen our assets looted by the wealthy and the powerful again and again. Some of us have seen friends and relatives lose everything and suicide, or just die because they could not afford medical care. We’ve seen others join the military and get killed or wounded or…changed…just because they were desperate to get out of an untenable situation that was no fault of their own.

We have kids who can’t afford to go to college because they don’t want to spend a life in debt servitude, or we are those young people ourselves. We’ve seen the climate change year after year but see our leaders either mouth platitudes and do next-to-nothing about it(Obama) or deny its very existence(Trump). We’ve been fooled by politicians who promised to make meaningful changes for us and then not even tried to do so, and then seen them rewarded by the kleptocrats for their service with cushy board positions and astronomical speaking or consulting fees.

We see our media flat-out lying to us, giving demonstrably false arguments equal time with real ones, or ignoring the real ones altogether. We see our civilization being driven to the abyss by the greed of people who only care about more profit soonest and feel powerless because there seems to be nothing we can do to stop it. We see wars waged and sanctions applied to people and countries we’ve never met nor been to who have never done us any harm. We see refugees at our borders being abused in ways of which the Gestapo or the Stasi would approve.

We see our food, air and water poisoned for profit. We feel our infrastructure crumble underneath the tires of our aging vehicles as we drive to work or to the store. We see planes crash because the manufacturers are allowed to self-regulate.

We see fewer birds and fireflies due to climate change and pesticides.

We see the rich get richer while we pay more and more and continue to sink no matter how hard we scrimp and save. We see qualified people denied jobs due to their age or to some past nonviolent offense that shouldn’t have been an offense in the first place.

I could go on for hundreds of paragraphs, but I think you get the idea. Bernie Sanders has fought the good fight, fought for us, for over 40 years. We trust the old Jew from Brooklyn whose relatives in Europe were murdered by the Nazis. We trust the man who has been consistent in his ethics and standards for longer than many of us have been alive. We have hope that maybe, just maybe, he can save our civilization from itself without revolution and civil war.

That’s why we support Bernie Sanders, and only him, for we cannot totally trust even the best of the others to even try to do what they say they will do. If that’s not clear, I’m sorry, but that’s the best I can do right now.

It is better to vote for what you want and not get it than to vote for what you don't want and get it.--Eugene Debs

You can jail a revolutionary, but you can't jail the revolution.--Fred Hampton
