CNN’s Jake Tapper, of all people, asked Nancy Pelosi why there was no money in the latest pandemic stimulus package for state and local governments to pay for things necessary to fight the pandemic. Her response? “Calm down!” and “Don’t criticize the package for what’s not in it.”

Calm down? Don’t criticize the package for failing to even address some of the most basic needs of the American people during this crisis? The hell I will! If Nancy Pelosi needs to know what we need, Vic DiBittetto tells her in less than five minutes:

Why is there no rent, mortgage, or bill relief mandated by the federal government? As Vic says, they can just be pushed back until the pandemic is over. Nancy’s corporate sponsors will have to wait a few months to get their money, but Congress won’t even consider that! For that matter, where the fuck is the House of Representatives? Mitch McConnell’s Senate is back in Washington Monday, but not the House! And Pelosi won’t let them vote from home so they can’t get anything fucking done while hundreds of millions of Americans are suffering!

Where’s temporary UBI? Where’s money for universal testing? Where’s the outcry from the so-called left for food processing workers being forced to work to process bacon and chicken without proper protective gear? In Iowa, if such a worker refuses to work under those conditions, they are considered to have quit and can’t even get unemployment! Why is the government letting Amazon continue to work its employees like dogs?

And where are the progressive Democrats? Why don’t I see Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown, Ro Khanna, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and others holding press conferences demanding that Pelosi immediately call the House back into session to address all of those things? By the gods, if grocery store cashiers have to work, then Congress sure as shit ought to be doing their fucking jobs!

Well, where are you, elected progressive Democrats? <crickets> Yeah, I know why they’re not saying much of anything. They don’t want to risk losing their precious committee assignments, risk having their seats redistricted out of existence, or being primaried and attacked by the Vichy Dems. In short, they’re still Democrats. I say to them: You fucking cowards, speak up! Do something! Fight for us! People are dying and risking their lives and WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU PEOPLE?

Why aren’t progressive Democrats stating the obvious, which is that the Vichy Democrat Party leadership is going along with the Republicans because they agree with them! Because they serve the same corporate and kleptocratic masters! Now’s the perfect time to push for Medicare for All in Congress. The perfect time to call for ending Endless Imperial War so the government’s resources can be used at home where they’re needed.

Nope. All we get is more incrementalism, more “cooperation.” More baby steps. More, well maybe we should consider thinking about that sometime soon. More we don’t have the votes so we won’t even try.

All of this tells me that so long as progressives are Democrats, they’re never going to get anything done. One never wins by bowing down to one’s enemies, and it is delusion to think Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and Joe Fucking Biden are not the mortal enemies of progressives. It also tells me that Nancy Pelosi and her ilk want small businesses to close so their rich friends can swoop down and feed off their carcasses.

That the oligarchy is using the Shock Doctrine to wage an all-out assault on the middle class of this country, as well as the working class. That they want a new aristocracy, and want the United States to become just another Third World country where one is either rich or one is poor. If progressive Democrats don’t step up now, what good are they? Why should I continue to support them?

      You tell me.

Honestly, I think a significant proportion of Bernie’s movement is feeling the “hit” that it is all about “us” now. Many of us don’t want to follow the path Bernie has chosen to go with Biden. We want to go on a different path. And we don’t want to wait four years and we don’t have time for incrementalism.

It seems a lot of us are open to voting Green this year, in part because the Green Party is where Bernie’s platform positions survive. Cornel West and Nina and Brie certainly have some idea of the pulse of where people are at. I think they should get together with Howie Hawkins and Jesse Ventura and have a meeting about a coalition.  There are more than enough reasons to “justify” diverging from Bernie’s path with an ill-fated Biden.  There is more that unites us than that divides us. The Green Party gets the boost they need and our movement shows we are going forward from Bernie and not only puts the Dems on notice, but finally gets it through their heads that we have minds of our own.

Maybe I’m crazy. But let’s say Jesse Ventura gets the Green nomination, has a strong progressive running mate, like Ralph Nader or even Nina, but not “no-names” because we want to kick some ass and don’t have time for too much “let’s get acquainted.”  With the high unemployment and inept response from the government to the masses, there may be an opportunity to upset the two-party system, or at the very least scare them into productive action.

I’ve had it with Third Way, Corporate Dems, and waiting. For so many reasons, we are out of time.  Reading so many critiques of Jesse Ventura that say “but he believes this, this , and this, and he did this, this and this..” and then I see their stuff is from like twenty, thirty years ago. Sure he still believes some of the same, but he has grown wiser and some of these people have definitely not been listening to him lately.

@tokenlib I don’t have as many reservations about Jesse Ventura for others here because it is well nigh impossible for him to actually win, and because his endorsement of the Green Party offers populists an opportunity to form a coalition to be reckoned with.

An alliance between people like Ventura and Nina Turner can bring leftists, disenfranchised people, and even some libertarian and paleoconservative types together into something that can keep growing into a movement that can threaten the oligarchy.

The ruling oligarchy has made a lot of enemies. Maybe it’s time for some of us to make common cause on certain basic issues.
