Nina Turner recently said that the choice between Trump and Biden was equivalent to choosing between a full bowl of shit and half a bowl of shit. I think she was being too kind. Trump is more like an overflowing bowl of shit that is slopping over onto the plate or tablecloth beneath, while at best Biden is a bowl of shit filled to the brim. Add Kamala Harris to the mix, and Biden’s bowl runneth over.

I don’t know at whom to be angrier or disgusted. Trump, who most recently said Harris wants to socialize medicine(she doesn’t), ban fracking(she doesn’t), cut the defense budget(she recently voted against cutting it by a paltry 10%), and representing the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party(no comment needed here)? The Turtle or Nancy Pelosi, who are now on vacation while the working class is being more than decimated?

The Democratic Party, which rigged two primaries in a row and is poised to nominate two whores to wealth, power, and the Obama status quo? Progressive Democrats like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who endorsed an old Fascist with dementia in return for absolutely nothing for their supporters? People like Michael Moore and Noam Chomsky, who dare to tell people like me I must lap up Biden’s bowl of shit while they themselves are wealthy enough to order their favorite dishes from Amazon no matter who wins?

I just saw a chart on Hill Rising showing that people who make the equivalent of $32 per hour have seen their wealth increase since the beginning of the pandemic, while those who make $15 an hour or less have seen theirs drop by 20%. The stock market continues to rise, while the value of the dollar falls as foreign investors realize that there is literally nothing backing it but 1s and 0s in cyberspace and the faith of stockholders.

Meanwhile every other industrialized country, with the exception of Brazil, has gotten the pandemic at least somewhat under control while Americans die from Covid-related complications at the rate of 1500 a day. And Congress goes on vacation, Trump describes Biden/Harris as a socialist dream ticket, the Democrats say Trump is a threat to a democracy that has not existed since at least 2000, police continue to brutalize and murder civilians with few repercussions, @davidthegnome is having panic attacks and depriving me of his screeds, I’ve been out of pot for a week, and we’re almost out of toilet paper again.

The only thing I can really do is to ,  control the things that I can and should control, pay attention to my spiritual center again, and do my best to prepare for the storm I know is coming, the same storm our rulers believe is impossible just because it’s never hit America before. They’re stupid people, you know. If you don’t believe that, just look at the two bowls of shit they’re offering us right now.

      Hi ob,

No need to fret.  Every dog has its day.  The country once known as America is in terminal decline.  We are just in the unfortunate position of living through the carnage.  Most of us will be dead soon enough, so don’t fret so.  It will all be over in the proverbial blink of an eye.

@thouartthat First things first. Necessary groceries, then I’ll go shoot the shit out of a target at the range. At least I can’t say the times are boring.

Grub and guns. This is the most intelligent idea I’ve seen on the web today. Your priorities are right. That is what I did yesterday, and will probably do again tomorrow. Life isn’t that bad. Some things are still fun and life is Good.

The pathway though chaos into stability is one in which you AL WAYS receive some kind of instruction as to how to go forward. We are never going back to what we were, which is a dysfunctional goal for so many in the U.S. So many want to “go back”, but it’s never that way.

We need to walk more humbly on this earth with other nations., This planet does NOT belong to the United States of America. It’s coming to an end, which you perceive as “terminal decline”, but I see as something a bit differently. We have to care for each other.  As you think about this shift, ask yourself the ultimate question as to what your part of this is. I find myself looking for a co-creative method as how to go about doing that. If that means eating shit for a while, so be it.

Terminal decline?  It’s transition and we are currently painting a different picture with our own shit… just like Salvadore Dali appeared to do at times… Woof!

Hell, no... I'm not giving up...

Hey OB, sorry to hear you are going through withdraws from David* and cannabis habit. You know, both of them are in your head. As for the toilet, didn’t you buy that bidet when you had the chance? There is a link for you below:

As far as taking your frustrations on a hapless piece of paper with hot lead, hope it helps.

So how do you want that bowl of shit served? Piping hot of the tongue of Trump and Company. Or served freezing cold from Biden and the behind the scenes guys i.e. Vichy Democrats or Conservative Democrats or DINOs?

*My hope is David hangs through this the best he can. Unfortunately, I do not know of a quick remedy for him. Hopefully David is talking to his doctor and getting strategies to cope with our current situation. I do wish him peace and love in his life.

@mrdmk Cannabis isn’t even habit-forming for me, but I can bitch about not having it if I want to. Same goes for David’s posts, and I don’t see how it does him any harm to say I miss them. That’s a compliment to him, you know.

As for hot lead and paper, I do feel better. I’ve always enjoyed shooting sports, be it with firearms or crossbows, or throwing darts, for that matter. Shooting pool’s good, too.

As for the bowls of shit, I refuse to partake of either. I truly don’t care which one of those assholes win in November. Either one has an excellent chance of being the last President of the United States, a possibility I contemplate with far more anticipation than alarm.

And fuck bidets. I never did like spraying my ass with those things, though I’ll take a bidet over my bare hand any day.

–you can ever have more than two choices.  Most third parties could give a rat’s ass about talking to non-policy wonk voters, and don’t even bother with registered voter databases.  The only real question is–with which of the two choices can progressIves better fight for progressive changes?

The only successful third party in US history is the Republican Party, and it was successful only because the Whigs were on the way out–they didn’t even bother to nominate a presidential candidate in 1856.

@eridani – if what has happened to progressives in the Democratic Party this year does not show that, I don’t know what will.  Also, I am not basing my vote on who has a registered voter database.  Since the Democrats and the Republicans are both actively anti-progressive, I believe voting for either of them is throwing my vote away.  So I may as well throw that vote to a party I agree with on issues.  I’d say oh, wait until Biden and Pelosi and all the other rabidly anti-progressives are gone, but then we have Harris and Buttigieg and other Vichy Dems in the wings, walking out on the stage.  So no, there will not be any progressive movement in the Democratic Party.  Just tokens, blocked by Pelosi and Schumer.

@eridani Now that’s a persuasive argument! Choose between the bowls of shit or else you are mentally ill! How Stalinist of you! I say Stalinist because of Stalin’s habit of putting the political opponents he didn’t have murdered or sent to the gulag in mental hospitals, for anyone who thought differently than he was obviously mentally ill.

Do you really think that the 40+ % of Americans who either don’t vote or vote third party are mentally ill? For that is what you are implying.

Of course, there’s always at least three choices whether you admit it or not–the Democrat, the Republican, or not voting. Often there is a third party choice, but that doesn’t mean that someone who makes that choice is mentally ill. Third party voters are quite aware that their choice has no chance of winning; they are, in a way, expressing their constitutional right to freedom of expression.

From my perspective, what is delusional is to do the same thing again and again while expecting a different result. Since at least 1996(there are good arguments to be made for far earlier dates) some progressives have been making the same argument you just did–that voting for a Democrat who fundamentally disagrees with progressive policies will result in progressives somehow being able to move that Democrat further to the left. That has never happened. So who is the delusional one here?

I’ll submit a few names–Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore, Cenk Uygur. There is zero hope for progressives at the ballot box in the presidential race this year or any other year where a real progressive is not at the top of the ticket. That is reality.

–you can only have two choices in a general election.  That doesn’t necessarily mean blue No Matter  Who.  In Seattle it means that your choice is between corporate Dems and Democratic Socialists.  The reason that is a choice is that Socialist Alternative was smart enough to establish a Seattle voter database, and has had well over 400 volunteers doing voter contact–for a single Seattle city council district.

Non-voters aren’t stupid–they just don’t see the point of being involved in elections.  But guess what–you can’t change that unless you interact with them.  The only way to do that is to have a database of registered voters, print out lists by precincts, and contact the houses that aren’t on the list.  The result may be that they stay uninterested, or maybe a few will have suggestions about social change not involving electoral politics.  If you get at least two similar suggestions, it will then be possible to have a socially distanced or Zoom meeting with them to plan how you can get more people involved.
