Like the citizens of many empires past, Americans now find themselves in a place where they just don’t know what to believe anymore. Let me count just a few of the ways.

We have a President who, as Bernie Sanders correctly described him, is a pathological liar. He lies and just makes shit up on a daily basis. He lied about the coronavirus pandemic from the very beginning in a myriad of ways, and was still lying about it as of last Tuesday during the shitshow the media called a “debate.” He lied about his Fascist opponent, Joe Biden, being a socialist. He lied about mail-in voting being inherently fraudulent. He lied about anti-police protesters being violent radical leftists. I could go on, but you and I just don’t have the time. Trump has no credibility.

We have a challenger to the President who has always been a running dog lackey of the imperialist regime and a loyal servant of the financial capitalist oligarchy that has evolved into an out-and-out kleptocracy. Joe Biden’s actions show him to be a slaver(he practically created the for-profit prison industry), a warmonger, an ecocidal maniac, and the exact opposite of the blue collar man from Scranton he sells himself as. Biden has no credibility.

We have police who collectively lie as much as Trump every day, who murder unarmed citizens with virtual impunity, and a so-called justice system that seldom finds they did anything wrong, much less illegal. We have a judicial system that can only be relied on for finding in favor of the wealthy and the powerful. The police and the courts have no credibility.

We have a legislature that is so corrupt it can be counted on to fund the kleptocracy and profitable overseas wars, but cannot even bring itself to provide health care and financial support for its own people during a time of viral pandemic and economic depression. Congress has no credibility.

We have a media with an Overton Window about as wide as a medieval castle’s arrow slit or a ship’s porthole, unable to even admit the possibility that there are other ways of governing or of running an economy than what currently exists in the Empire for a very simple reason: Its members will lose their fat salaries if they dare to say otherwise. Our media, with a few underfunded independent exceptions, has no credibility.

The only bright spot is information technology; the internet has opened a world of information up to the citizens of the Empire much as the printing press did to the Germans of Martin Luther’s day, and the more the authorities try to clamp down on the types of information which are available, the more technological alternatives spring up and provide it anyway.

The result of all of that is a population growing increasingly cynical and wary of official pronouncements even as most people’s economic circumstances are in a state of visible decline.

As things continue to fall apart due to the rapaciousness of the kleptocratic regime, the accelerating encroachments of climate change and an economy offering less and less opportunity for stability, much less advancement, it is no wonder that  record numbers of people are arming themselves in anticipation of uncertain and unstable times ahead. The Empire’s institutions cannot be trusted, but a gun only does what its owner causes it to do. Weapons have credibility whereas our “leaders” and the financially privileged do not.

Perhaps the most incredulous thing is that the members of our ruling kleptocracy are so confident, so arrogant, so certain that their status is eternal, much like the aristocrats of Rome thought of the Roman Empire as eternal even as the Visigoths reached northern Italy, that their only response is to double down with more unbelievable statements and platitudes while assuming that the police are sufficient to protect them from anything desperate people might do, that the Army will remain loyal, and that most Americans will remain contemptible, stupid, disposable and consumable sheep even as they face hunger and homelessness.

No matter which Fascist is President next year, no matter which party of the kleptocracy controls the Senate, climate change will keep happening and the economy will keep collapsing for the majority. Perhaps the most incredible thing is that the rulers of the American Empire will do absolutely nothing to keep it from declining even further and faster than it already is, because they are doing just fine, thank you very much.

The only question for the kleptocrats is whether it will be their children or grandchildren who will ask them why they did nothing to stop the wolves of revolution and Ragnarok when the howls of inevitable change had become louder and louder for years before the walls around their estates finally fell.

You can jail a revolutionary, but you can't jail the revolution.--Fred Hampton

Ceausescu, in a Communist Dictatorship of course, said years ago here, that things were easy there. Anything coming out of state run media was a lie, and you could discount it.

Here, it may be a lie, it may be the truth, it may be partially true, intentionally misleading, weasel words, pure propaganda, or who knows what, so I agree.

My opinion, if it’s corporate, don’t trust it, as you say OB, their mission is to continue things as is.

In America, “Liberty” means “Free to Die in Service of Capital” - Amfortas the hippie.

Most of today’s elites have the moral and social reasoning capacities of spoiled toddlers.

“People of privilege will always risk their complete destruction rather than surrender any material part of their advantage...but the privileged also feel that their privileges, however egregious they may seem to others, are a solemn, basic, God-right. The sensitivity of the poor to injustice is a trivial thing c
