Watching TV news saying Bernie had heart surgery. Bummer. He can’t get back to campaigning for at least six weeks, probably two months. Aw, shit. Well, it sounds routine and he should be okay.

IF this is true, I will console myself with the thought that at least he won’t be assassinated, which I’ve been worried about all along…

    I don’t like that headline.

I haven’t heard anything about any time frame for recovery that is credible – and who could possibly know with 100% certainty?

What I do know is that his timing is great! Take some time off now. News cycle is turned to code red on Trump. What kind of dent is going to make in a mediascape that doesn’t respect him anyways?

I have a couple of stents myself.  If he did not have an actual heart attack he should bounce back rather quickly.  Like maybe tomorrow or the next day.

Have to check in to SV.  Those idiots are probably dancing in the streets!

According to news reports the media talked to a couple of doctors there. It was a myocardial infarction i.e. heart attack.

@stockholmer Would you like to see that? I mean, since Bernie’s just a sheepdog and all.

I would vastly prefer Warren to Biden as your POTUS.

Really hard to stop Biden via the Warren pathway if Bernie is in the race.

As for sheepdog, it is not my invention.

He endorsed and campaigned hard for Clinton 2016. If he does the same for Biden, ie. if  Bernie drops out and doesn’t endorse Warren, I think the answer is right there, out in the open.

Your entire political system is broken at multiple levels. The votes are not there for someone to run as a falsely-labelled ‘Democratic Socialist’, when they are simply a bog standard social democrat. It is self-defeating before the race even starts.

With around 110 self-identified conservadems in the Democratic House Caucus, even the Public Option doesn’t stand a chance if that is the starting point, as Medicare For All gives the PO as a step down compromise. The Republicans have gamed the electoral map via gerrymandering. There are so many artificially made swing and red districts that it is almost impossible to elect enough progressives to actually get true LW legislation passed.

If your Supreme Court strikes down the ACA in its entirety next year, just getting back to that terrible level will be a insanely hard political lift.

Putting Biden in means the Public Option is surely toast, as he will fold like a cheap suit. Hell, some of his co-chairs for huge fundraisers are the very same bastards who almost defeated the ACA, and DID stop the Public Option back in 2010.

Warren might have a shot at getting the Public Option passed, as her starting point will be MFA, and the PO is at least a foot in the door towards universal healthcare.

I reserve judgement on Bernie 2020 until I see how he plays it out.

@stockholmer The public option is a sick joke. It won’t work. All that will do is drive sicker and older people to Medicare, and conservatives and the HMOs will then help bankrupt it and call for its dismantlement because it’s “too expensive.” The only thing that will work in this country is either a single payer system or flat-out socialized medicine.

You are correct that Bernie is a Social Democrat, and a rather conservative one at that, by European standards. Most Americans don’t know the difference between social democracy and democratic socialism. In fact, Bernie has successfully redefined the latter to mean the former here. I don’t understand why he did that, but there it is, and his Medicare-for-All is polling at 70%. It is doable, but Bernie is the only candidate polling above single digits who would actually try to make it happen.

And good to see you. I have missed our discussions, especially our arguments.

Bernie will be fine.    I sense a bit of trolling going on here.

Recovery from angioplasty and stenting is typically brief. Discharge from the hospital is usually 12 to 24 hours after the catheter is removed. Many patients are able to return to work within a few days to a week after a procedure.

Yeah, I agree with @asimplegame, and I’ve heard the same in the past. Bernie will be roaring back as if he took a 2 week vacation. So in the meantime, I would like to see Nina take his place on the campaign trail and raise hell. Because she is good at it! (So as to not miss a beat).

Have you guys been reading what I’ve been reading??? He’ll be up and around in 2 weeks or less. As far as canceling the ad. they canceled them because he won’t be making the Iowa appearances. Originally they were going to run the ads while he was there.

@leftcoastmountains Thanks for posting that info here. It seems like it’s a pretty routine procedure these days, if one has the money, and Bernie already used it to promote Medicare for All. Still fighting.

He’ll be back.  Not buying purple & black bunting yet (for the campaign).  Bernie’s in better shape than I am, and I’m 10 years younger.

I feel much better since I gave up hope.

Down, but definitely not out. He’ll be back for the 10/15/19 debate.

The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.   Mark Twain

The event hurt him more politically than physically.    I expect the other candidates will refer to him sympathetically as a sort of nice OLD guy who has HEART PROBLEMS with over obvious care not to upset the Nice Old Guy With Heart Problem when debating him.

The will all carefully talk about “My old friend, Bernie…”.

It all adds up to..bad theatre.
