It’s NOT HIS JOB to get these bills passed. Nor, as most junior members of the House, is it the job of AOC or Jayapal (even though I have no respect for either one of them). So why is he being quoted in headlines?

In the universe populated by real people, this is entirely on Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff, Dick Durbin, and the other important members of the Democratic Party who are responsible for keeping their party members in line.

If the bills fail to pass, it’s their fault. IMHO.

I wish I had a nickel everytime I heard that during the Democratic Primary — “Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat.”

And to think, the bargaining began at $6 trillion:

Maybe they can print up an LBJ.
For support of working class people and Congressional arm-twisting, there may have been none better in my lifetime. We’ve had since then a pattern of Congressional leaders who are really lobbyists, and Presidents stymied by the likes of the Senate Parliamentarian.
LBJ of course was also a villain because he capitulated to the MIC regarding an almost-forever war probably entered via a false flag, Viet Nam.

Yes he is. He decided that in 2016, if not earlier. I don’t understand why he hasn’t made it official since it hasn’t helped him much politically, as far as I can see.

He is to the left of everyone in the Democratic Party, that IS true.

But it is NOT true that he is a Democrat. He may have registered as a formality for the 2016 race, and he has ALWAYS caucused with Democrats, but make no mistake – his decision to run as an Independent was a deliberate one.

Regardless, I didn’t really want to get into an argument here with others – I was sort of mocking how neoliberals like Stephanopoulos invite him to the Sunday shows ONLY as a means of saying, “Bernie is the arbiter here – if it fails, it’s his fault!” when it comes to discussing issues where progressive legislators are showing strength in being real opposition to right-wing bills.

Bernie is it’s biggest advocate, but he does not control the Democratic party and how it moves legislation through the process.  Closeupready is right he should not have to shoulder the blame for Pelosi’s and Schumer’s mistakes.  He will however, in my opinion, deserve most of the credit if it does pass in any worthwhile form.

It was intended as an ‘open letter to media outlets making Bernie Sanders the point of reference for ongoing negotiations with regard to Democratic bills which are in jeopardy’. I should have made that more clear. Cheers.

Even if I wasn’t on vacation, I would have seen none of those shows. Bernie Sanders is a liar, a cowardly and sycophantic poltroon, and was an effective sheep dog for the Democratic Party. He’s still playing that role. Whether he is really a Democrat are not doesn’t matter at all. I have no interest in anything he says, which is exactly how much interest I have in anything the neoliberal propagandists in the corporate state media have to say.

I know, I know, the hypocrisy of Democratic partisans knows no bounds, and it does deserve to be ridiculed as you just did. What’s going to happen is that Bernie and the other progressives will end up caving by voting for some corporatist-assed Fascist infrastructure bill and then try to lecture the left with “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good” bullshit. If it doesn’t destroy the oligarchy and the predatory American capitalist system, it’s worthless, and so are they and the host of ABC’s This Week.

The system will destroy itself sooner of later; all Bernie and the progressives will do is try to save it. Which is silly and futile, IMHO.

which means he has to work with so-called “Democrats” to pass a reconciliation bill.

Otherwise the corporate presstitutes would be ignoring him, like they usually do.
