Bernie Sanders: Trump Will Be Inaugurated This Week, Calling Him Illegitimate “Just Words”

    ===

SANDERS: Well, I think he’s going to be inaugurated this week. I have great concerns, and apparently Republicans do as well, and there’s going to be an investigation about the role that Russian hacking played in getting him elected.

Do I think Russians supported him? Do I think they tried to get him elected? Do I think it worked against Clinton? I do. And that is something that has to be investigated.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Does that make him illegitimate?

SANDERS: But right now, what my job is — pardon me? Those are just words. Right now, what my — my job is right now going beyond media conflicts and words is to say that Donald Trump, among other things, told the American people he would not cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and right now Republicans in the House and Senate are doing just that.

      1. This is what we need more of…staying focused on the real issues.

Not the hyperbole or calling the president elect illegitimate.

        7. Exactly.

There are a few areas where we can hold Trumps feet to the fire, work with him on promises he made. All the sour grapes ‘illegitimate’ rhetoric only serves to prevent that.  This doesn’t prevent us from opposing Trump in the many areas of disagreement.

          12. In fact acknowledging he is President will aid.

How can anyone care what he does if he is “not president”.  As the President we can speak against him, speak out loudly and support Bernie.  We need to follow his lead!  Stay focused on the issues and not the things both parties are doing to divide us and keep us fighting each other.

        14. Absolutely agree. The issues are where we have our greatest solidarity, not

in any outrage over mare up stories. Hold Trump to his promises about Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

      2. "pardon me? Those are just words." – bravo, Bernie!

You think the only reason that people won't vote for a warmongering Third Way fracking-enabling cluster bomb throwing H-1B increasing lying pandering corporate and Wall Street shill who says she has no problem putting abortion rights on the table is because we are mad about Bernie?  Um, nope.

      4. That is a VERY MISLEADING headline. Just saying.

It implies that Bernie says Trump is illegitimate.

          6. Oh, I know, but my heart sank when I saw it, because I thought Bernie had

          joined that chorus.

Hillary, IMO, was an illegitimate candidate.

            10. Well I think legitimacy comes from integrity and popular support.

And that leaves Bernie at this point. The most popular politician in the USA.  And he compromised during the election too, though I don’t blame him for that.

But we lost. So we need to refocus and regroup.

It’s going to be a spectacle whatever we do now. Might as well take notes.

            16. Illegitimate Hillary

She rigged the system, ran against a cartoon Mussolini, and still managed to lose.

That takes a special kind of talent.

      8. "Those are just words …"

“Those are just words. Right now, what my — my job is right now going beyond media conflicts and words is to say that Donald Trump, among other things, told the American people he would not cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and right now Republicans in the House and Senate are doing just that.”

Bernie, Bernie … forget the issues.  What’s important is that shiny object over there, you know, the “shoot someone in the street” comments.  No, now it’s the pussy grabbing.  No, now it’s a word that’s the shiny object.  Anyway, just look over there and quit worrying about the American people.

        15. +100 stephanopolous (former clintonite) = whore. He repeatedly tries

to put words in sanders mouth and get him to say “illegitimate”

      9. He DIDN'T call him illegitimate. I swear half the reading public

doesn’t read beyond the headline — that’s usually written by editors (for management) not by reporters.

“– pardon me? Those are just words”

I see that the untruncated headline is not quite as bad, if you parse it “correctly” — but it needs to be parsed thus is confusing

      ‘Calling Him Illegitimate “Just Words”‘

        28. I agree.

Love Bernie, wrote him in, as did Mick. But I’m tired of politicians never answering a direct question! It’s come to the point where we’re both surprised when they actually do, which is rare. What the hell is going on?

        What fresh hell is this?

      17. Sanders: Still the classiest in DC.

Hopefully average Joes & Janes of this country will realize what the Third Way/DNC cheated them out of & will respond in kind next election cycle.

      18. To imagine

Because of Clinton’s grasping, myopic power-hungry and bigoted campaign, we no longer have adults in charge. The Democrats are off throwing their spaghetti-o’s and having a kicking tantrum while the Republican are lifting skirts and hooting at panties and trying to light their own farts.

All because that fucking waste of meat decided “It’s My Turn!” I can’t wait until whatever fucking prion is munching her brain finishes its work.

What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace

        20. And lighting your own farts

is a dangerous venture, speaking from experience.  Don’t try this at home, but if you do, please remember to wear some pants.  The effect is greatly enhanced when nude, but oh, my, the consequence!

      21. Trump is not illegitmate

Trump was elected by the rules set in place at the start of the campaign.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” -TR

        27. Their crap is not hard to cut through, they rely on control of the bullhorn.

And people’s natural desire not to piss off the people they live and work with. If you can manufacture the illusion of consensus you can get away with all kinds of stuff like graft and wars. This is why they don’t like demos, they don’t fear the demos, but they hate hate hate them on the nightly news, because that makes their illusion of consensus obviously bullshit.
