As Republican governors across the US move to end access to the $300-a-week federal supplemental unemployment benefits, the White House announced Friday that the assistance will come to an end in September.

In a bid to force workers back to work, multiple Republican governors announced they will stop participating in the federal government’s supplemental unemployment benefits program in June. Millions of workers will receive their final federal benefits this month, as these governors pull the plug on the federal assistance, claiming the money has caused a “worker shortage.”

The states opting out of the program include: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming.

When asked if the federal benefits were impacting employment, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters, “I think that’s a really difficult thing to analyze given that we have created a historic number of jobs in the last four months … I would leave it to you and your outside analysts to decide whether that is a big factor in terms of economy and date or whether that is a political discussion we’re having.”

The article cites a Federal Reserve study which showed that workers are not turning down jobs due to enhanced unemployment benefits except in the lowest of the low-paid jobs, and that the states cutting the benefits are hurting their own economies because they are taking spending money out of people’s pockets.

This isn’t about money. It’s about power. The capitalist oligarchs want to force Americans to work for crumbs, and Joe Biden is more loyal to that oligarchy than was Donald Trump.

And then acting on a myth.

Make the workers hurt. Make them hurt so bad that they have no choice but to work for pittance. And if they won’t work for pennies, the filthy rich take away the worker’s safety nets and let the majority starv, become homeless and sick.

Why are they so cruel and greedy you ask? Because they are sociopaths. Only the poorly socially adapted can become so horrifically wealthy that they purposely go out to destroy the majority of society.

This austerity for the majority, the destruction of our society, for the benefit of a minority of white men will continue until we get rid of capitalism.

Sure, the majority of American oligarchs are white men due to historical factors, but most white men are not oligarchs. The oligarchy is delighted to have found a bevy of new servants of color; witness our Vice-President and the President before last. And they are every bit as devoted to maintaining that oligarchy’s power as the worst of the old white robber barons were a century ago.

If you want change, and make everything about race or ethnicity, then you are backing a losing political strategy, which is exactly why the oligarchy smiles every time they see something like your reply said.

The huge majority of the filthy rich are white men. But stating the fact of their skin color and sex doesn’t do anymore then describe them.

Just saying what they are is not racism. It has to be taken a step forward like all white men are lazy or stupid, which I don’t think is the case. If the majority were mostly green or children, we would describe them as that identifying characteristic.

Yes, there are filthy rich women of color somewhere, but they make up such a small group that to identify the rich oligarchy as that, would just be confusing.

Racism is a tool of inequality used by the filthy rich to divide and abuse the majority of society. I agree with you there.

But to think just describing them is a tool of racism, is hard to believe.
