Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill are quickly shutting down calls to defund police departments as the party grapples with how to respond to demands for reforms in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

The idea is splintering black activists and some prominent progressive lawmakers from Biden and top congressional Democrats while providing fodder for national Republicans, who are quickly mobilizing to use it as the latest example of Democrats moving to the left in the lead up to November.

A spokesman for Biden’s campaign said Monday that the former vice president “hears and shares the deep grief and frustration” of those calling for reform, but that he “does not believe that police should be defunded.”

Later, Biden made his position clear in an interview with CBS.

And until it does again, the police will become more and more militaristic and treat us as the enemy and not act as the servants the police are suppose to be.

We are an arrogant species, believing our fantasy based "facts" are better than the other person's fake facts.

I just read that Biden is salivating over the possibility of an endorsement from the chimp and is organizing Republicans for Biden. Apparently progressives mean nothing to him. This will bite him in the ass bigtime.

Biden gets the majority of endorsements from MSM (> 90% at least), majority of past DOD generals, past and present members of the Intelligence Community, majority of the union bosses (not the workers), majority of the big business lobby groups, majority of the entertainment elites, and majority of the countries that want the US to continue to have military bases in their country.  Typically Pro-Isreal groups also give a majority of the money to Democrats.  It looks like he is also hoping to get a majority of endorsements from the police as well. Certainly, he is the lesser of two evils (sarcasm)

Which reminds me; where are the photos of Biden sniffing the hair of non-Caucasian woman? Few and far between, or basically non-existent?

If Biden is given a pass by every last activist who has him in their reach, then that will be taken by many as a credibility issue for their groups. We remember that brave woman who spent a lot of her money by buying a ticket to a Clinton event just so she could confront Clinton over Her past comments like “Bring them to heel”.

If it was good for the goose back in 2016 then it will certainly be good for the gander in 2020.

If they wall Biden off from being confronted then they put the convention at risk of being a pressure cooker of simmering resentments, ones that could blow the lid off. It will be a bad look if the convention has to be heavily policed by security, and if protestors are knocked about.

Donald “rough ’em up” Trump and the MPD union head, and 2,000 Dem mayors, governors, DAs, councilmembers; yes, Trump’s numbers are diving, but they also surged in March over COVID (lolwut)

Biden wants cops and jails, vocally believes he’s right to, and explodes when challenged: if the Dems want him to lead the “not Trump” movement they’re going to have to get these people off the streets before someone notices he’s the guy most responsible for one-third of Black men going to prison …

I was pleased #BLM revived (it’d seemed bogged down before this) instead of swallowing the Party grenade like #MeToo, but I’m always thinking–what will this look like in a month? will we be back on Covid? will there be a murder of an LGBT person that competes for bandwidth now? will the protests peter out, turn into camps, get rousted like OWS? will the online nest of vipers have macerated Floyd’s past like Reade? how long will those bookstore tables of AA studies and SF last? how will Twitter and Tumblr fuck up their inevitable “Nazis bad” purges?

what good is it to toss a statue as a bronze embodiment of historic racism and then flip Arizona for the living man who most embodies present-day systemic racism?

and if they unleash the knout against the most engaged activists at Milwaukee it’s not likely they can use that as yet another sign of how Trump’s America is failing, like they have with (Cuomo’s) COVID deaths or the cop (Kropitzball let walk)

if liberals can swallow Biden’s groping, Drug-Warmongering, war-warmongering, refusing the sick healthcare, etc., how many more can swallow the same for Trump?

Reform must be done slowly, carefully, perpetually, eternally, by blue ribbon commissions that issue bulky reports. By the way, what is a blue ribbon commission? Is it made up of people who had great science fair projects, or raised a prize heifer in 4H? Anyway, we know we have to appoint them to “get to the bottom” of something and make “meaningful recommendations” and other stuff I forget right now.

All that military equipment being sold to police departments might dry up. Besides that, the Vichy Dems are cowards, terrified to actually take on the right wing, terrified to look weak to conservative voters. They don’t care how they look to progressive ones.

As I’ve said before, if there’s ever been a candidate who can snatch defeat away from the jaws of victory, it is Joe Biden. And if there is an adviser who can do that, it is Rahm Emmanuel. Fascist bastards.

      So, it’s Bill Cinton’s “I feel your pain” V2.0?
