Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden on Monday said that he would consider choosing a Republican for a running mate if he’s the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, though he said someone who would fit the proper bill didn’t immediately come to mind.

“The answer is I would, but I can’t think of one now,” Mr. Biden said in response to a questioner at a campaign stop in New Hampshire.

Anything to be bipartisan. I have a suggestion. He should become Republican and then “reach out” to somebody like Amy Klobuchar as a running mate.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

This sounds like more Biden stream of consciousness running at the mouth. Why even bring it up if you have no idea who you would choose?  This guy is as bad as trump when it comes to having his mind disengaged from his mouth.

Says he may only serve 1 term, only to let his Republican Vice Pres run as Pres .  Brilliant, I can’t believe Hillary didn’t think of it first. I wonder why Kissinger didn’t come to mind or Lieberman.

I cannot fucking imagine how the SV contingent would obfuscate this away.  Imagine Bernie saying that.  This is obviously a ploy to get GOP votes.  I will absolute not vote for anyone except Bernie.  If Bernie is not on the ballot, then Green.

I will not vote for a Vichy Dem. Period. As always, I decide who is a Vichy Dem.

    My first reaction was “dafuq?”

Having a little trouble getting past that first stage.  Why was this -person- ever let near the White House?

      It’s actually a good question.

I mean Joe Biden was a proven failure; he’d failed to even place in three primaries, beginning all the way back in 1984. As a senator he was known to basically be a seatwarmer, for a state that is mostly a mainland alternative to the Cayman Islands for corporate laundering.

My best guess is that he was “installed” as VP either because the party thought obama would be “too radical” in the same way they shoveled Lieberman onto Al Gore (fuckin’ lol in both cases) OR perhaps they wanted their man to be next in line if Obama’s head got opened like a lot of people were afraid of in that first year.

Why Biden? because out of all the candidates who had popped up in 2008, he was the most pliant. Clinton’s a lot of things but “meekly compliant” isn’t one of them. Edwards was a compliant weenie, but speaking of weenies, he’d been cheating on his wife while she was in her hospital bed, yikes. Bill Richardson gets a big “who?” Chris Dodd has a laundry list of financial scandals under that fake-looking rug of his… and that leaves Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich which, hah hah hah yeah right, like the party powerbrokers are gonna put either of those guys near the executive branch.

I mean at least seen in this light, Biden as VP makes a kind of sense, at least from the PoV of the party leadership. It’s not like Clinton picking Tim Kaine… which was probably one of the biggest what-the-fuck major party VP picks in history. A record that maybe Biden hopes to break, I dunno.

@coyote I think Biden was picked to show white voters that Obama wasn’t one of those black people, you know, the angry ones that actually want to see their standard of living go up. Everybody knew Biden had a racist record and had worked “across the aisle” with many shades of Fascists, so by picking him Obama showed he wasn’t some kind of radical who was going to really rock the boat.

Of course his admirers are calling this a Brilliant Stroke of Political Genius. Biden could say, “My pants are on fire!” and they would make the same assessment. Whatever he says is just fine with his supporters. This is similar to his advice to vote for Republicans down ballot, as long as he gets the vote for president. This is a difficult logical summersault for those demanding we vote for Biden out of loyalty to the party when he puts his own interests ahead of other Democrats. Given such remarks, I could make a good case we should vote for every Democrat except Biden.

And if he didn’t finish his term we’d have voted in a Republican.  Of course, Biden himself has strong Republican tendencies . . .

I thought it was Bernie that wasn’t really a Democrat?

If Joe picks a Republican for VP will whoever it is have to change parties?  When Joe quits after his first term, will the VP have to run as a Democrat or can they run as a Republican so will we then have to choose between two Republicans?

Between wanting us to vote for Republicans down ticket and also for a Republican VP should this sink Joe?  Bet it doesn’t.

Will Joe, if he becomes President, still be able to work with the Republicans in the Senate after he refuses to honor their subpoena?  Will he want to share a cell with a Republican when he and the Republicans that are also ignoring subpoenas are all dragged into court and found guilty?

Will Hunter have to get his no-show jobs from domestic companies if Joe becomes the President?

These and so many questions with less than a year to the election!

Maybe he can pick Pence when trump drops him from his ticket.

Of course, both Gore and Hillary chose VP’s who were so right wing as to be indistinguishable from Reagan era republicans. Fat lot of good it did them…

How fucked up is it that he’s still their golden child?

If Bernie don’t win the primary, no one in this household will be voting next year. I can’t vote for this type of stupidity.

Al Gore should call Joe up and remind him how well he did with a (Likudist) Republican on the ticket in 2000.

Now now. Remember that for every one progressive vote Joe loses over this, he’ll gain two white suburban Republican women. The problem is, white suburban Republican women don’t vote in the fucking Democratic primary, Joe, you friggin’ idiot.

I must admit the pretzel logic to justify this on SV is convoluted enough to give Dali a run for his money if it could be reduced to abstract painting. But Joe’s the real Democrat, while Bernie, LBJ, and FDR don’t measure up to the Holy Obama or St. Hillary.

I don’t see how this helps Biden in any of the first four primary states.

Perhaps the voters in SC should hear about this.

I’m guessing they would be thrilled with this idea.
