Biden: “To the companies running gas stations and setting those prices at the pump, this is a time of war, global peril, Ukraine. These are not normal times. Bring down the price you are charging at the pump. Do it now.”

Russia invades Ukraine. Gas stations overcharge. Since gas prices were way up before the Ukraine thing, I don’t see much connection. And where does Biden get the idea he can tell opportunistic vulture capitalists they have some social responsibility. No they don’t.  Want proof? Enact your fuel tax holiday and see what happens.

What an ass.  Because it is a time of war somewhere in the world – it always is, thanks to people like Joe – he can demand such a thing?  That isn’t how it works.  Now, if we were technically engaged in a declared war, that’s another matter.

This isn’t my war, i certainly didn’t choose it, Congress didn’t declare it – and the President does not have the authority.

Gas prices should drop, or, here is an idea – subsidize the buyer instead of those dipshit corporate executives at Exxon.  But no, let’s basically go ahead and make gas tax exempt, worked out so well with churches and “non profit” organizations.

Or drop prices because it is the decent, humane thing to do – but not if it puts you out of business.  But do it because there is a war somewhere that most of us want no part of?

      Hey Joe?  Fuck off.

      No?

      Still no?

      Quelle surprise, not.

That reminds me when Hillary went after Wall Street, “I told them to ‘Cut it out!'”

I wasn’t sure that was possible.

Those countries who chose to remain neutral regarding Russia’s reaction to The Ukraine don’t seem to be suffering at their pumps.

Well Russia had to sell it’s oil somewhere!

Worse, some of India’s refineries are purchasing Russia’s unrefined oil on the cheap, refining it then selling it to the U.S. at premium prices.

There’s some good ol capitalism for you…buy low/sell high!

      On another note,
gas in my area is around $5.50 a gallon.

There is a Shell station that was doing the same thing.

Most folks were going to Arco, about a mile away where gas could be had for around 25 cents a gallon cheaper.

Then a new gas station opened up across from the Shell station, their gas was $5.19 a gallon!

All of a sudden everyone started going there instead of Shell or Arco.

This lasted about a week when the Shell station across the street dropped it’s price from around $5.59 a gallon to $5.19 a gallon as well.

Yesterday while driving by the new gas station I saw that they are now advertising $4.89 a gallon!!!

The person who owns the Shell station across the street must be pulling out his hair over this.

I have to travel through that area today.

It will be interesting to see what the Shell station owner’s response will be.

It will also be interesting to see if that nearby Arco station owner has a response too.

      Ah…capitalism! It smells like gas.

      I’ll keep you folks updated.

Edited in update: That nearby Arco station I mentioned has now also dropped it’s gas to $5.19 a gallon.

Less than a mile further up the same road from that Arco, a 76 gas station is still charging $5.69 a gallon!

I’m guessing that 76 station owner has been reduced to selling overpriced cold beer!

“The companies running gas stations” are not the ones “setting those prices at the pump”. Gas station owners don’t control the global petroleum markets. The distributor sets the prices remotely. The gas station owner isn’t even aware of the change when it happens.
