ProPublica and FRONTLINE have identified more than twenty members with ties to the armed forces.

A good read about military and ex-military involvement in an extremist right wing group. I think it’s clear this these are the types of folks Trump was referring to when he bragged about having the support of some police and military over his four years in office. These are just a few excerpts from the article. Long read.

“In another instance, an ex-Marine gathered at least six men at a wooded property in McLoud, Oklahoma, a small town outside of Oklahoma City, and taught them how to storm a building. In a video posted to YouTube last year, the former Marine, Christopher Ledbetter, shows the group how to enter a house and kill any enemy combatants inside. Filmed with a GoPro camera, the video concludes with Ledbetter, who served in the Marine Corps from 2011 to 2015, blasting a wooden target with a barrage of bullets from a fully automatic AK-47-type carbine.

Ledbetter called his training facility the “kill house,” according to court records.

Traditional infantry tactics wouldn’t be particularly useful during the coming civil war, opined Guerrilla Instructor, arguing that sabotage and assassination would be more helpful for the anti-government insurgents. It was simple, he said: A Boogaloo Boi could just walk up to a government figure or law enforcement officer on the street and “shoot them in the face” before fleeing.

But there was another assassination technique that held special appeal for Guerrilla Instructor. “I believe honestly that drive-bys will be our greatest tool,” he said, sketching out a scenario in which three Boogs would hop in an SUV, spray a target with gunfire, “kill some dudes” and speed off.

From what I can tell, part of the unique nature of these current alt-right militia groups that are capable of actual violence is: First you notice they deal in nonsensical words and phrases, Hawaiian shirts, etc. Dangerous overall. First you think harmless Trumpster “patriots.” That is probably part of what shocked people on 1/06: That they seem influenced in style by Beavis and Butthead and Trump but are capable of real violence. Maybe part of that casualness on the surface is a tactic. It reminds me also of the predator class of people in _Clockwork Orange.

Which begs the question:  are people attracted to the military because they are stupid, or does the military seek out stupid people who will not question orders?

Many of these guys are rather dim witted. Many are emotionally unstable, not able to control themselves in a crisis. What often happens with these groups is that they plan and train in a very focused manner, then completely lose focus when they spring into action. Instead of taking over a military base, for example, they’ll settle for shooting up a gas station. Stuff like that. There will be death and destruction, but it will be somewhat random, senseless and incoherent.

They’d be discussing how to assassinate wall street moguls that control the govt. not the govt pawns.
They want to terrorize any dems that might clash with capital, not capital itself.

The media is fearmongering about this bunch of goons, minuscule in number, acting like they’re some kind of dreadful threat to the Republic.

And why?So they can crack down on the rest of us,the average folks who would like to see a real change.

They are terrified that next time it will be a group who has had enough  of no vaccines, never ending plagues and wars, and the rich getting richer, who will storm the Bastille.

      So don’t fall for it.

Remember how we used to react to idiots like the Boogaloo Bois?We laughed at them.

Why have we somehow gotten afraid that we can’t laugh them back into the woodwork again

The aim of all this fearmongering is clear–to provide an excuse to pass the Domestic Terrorism Act, which would allow any presidential administration to treat any group of Americans just like they did Al-Qaeda.

Do we really want drone strikes on wedding parties in the United States? Because that’s what will eventually happen.

Yes, a small company of men with tools of violence can do terror attacks.

But a sustained anti-government insurrection depends on a lot of dedicated support for a cause.

Keeping that sort of support organized takes a lot of communication effort, from political outreach to logistical organization for an active paramilitary. The government is moving on tech/social media to deny that communication.

Ending the pandemic needs a shot in the arm.

Damn, the Boogaloo Bois!! God help America if they unite with Vlad Putin and take over the country once and for all!

People dumb enough to film themselves doing something illegal and then posting it on the Internet? Yeah.

All I have to say is, there are many former military who will stand against them, including me. I hate what our government does as much as anyone, but going after the citizens in some kind of coup, some kind of civil war? I don’t see this being justified.

I think that’s accurate. As you say, We got guns, too. Speaking for myself, I’m far more worried about being on the receiving end of police violence than I am about the Bugaloos. As is most of my community.
