It was published in 1999, but it’s eerily prescient (or perhaps history just repeats itself) of the current Covid-19 situation. An American forensic pathologist and Chinese detective reluctantly team up to expose a massive coverup of the unintentional release of a deadly virus in China. The epilogue mentions how the American company that helped develop the virus also miraculously develops the high-priced cure. I have no idea if the presentation of Chinese life is accurate; but the story is interesting and well written.
