SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazilians delivered a very tight victory to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in a bitter presidential election, giving the leftist former president another shot at power in a rejection of incumbent Jair Bolsonaro’s far-right politics.

Da Silva received 50.9% of the vote and Bolsonaro 49.1%, according to the country’s election authority. Yet hours after the results were in — and congratulations poured in from world leaders — Bolsonaro had yet to publicly concede or react in any way.

Bolsonaro’s campaign had made repeated — unproven — claims of possible electoral manipulation before the vote, raising fears that, if he lost, he would not accept defeat and try to challenge the results.

For da Silva, the high-stakes election was a stunning comeback. His imprisonment for corruption sidelined him from the 2018 election won by Bolsonaro, who has used the presidency to promote conservative social values while also delivering incendiary speeches and testing democratic institutions.

I sincerely hope Western influence will bounce off of him like so much PFOS on Teflon!

He may not be the leftist savior so many people think he is. He does appear to be a leftist Social Democrat, and the reason the Western capitalists are backing him may be that they fear a Bolsonaro victory could lead to a real popular revolution and the triumph of a real socialist or communist government.

Fortunately, we have Glenn Greenwald in Brazil, and the Convo Couch is doing a good job covering it, so we’ll know soon enough.

Bolsonaro hasn’t spoken publicly about the election results. Reports are he hasn’t met with allies or ministers but is going to bed. There seems to be very little appetite among his allies to claim election fraud. Many already are acknowledging Lula’s win. We’ll see how it goes.

We will see how long before Lula’s Administration is messed with by the Biden’s Administration.

Dollars to donuts, the U.S. will be all over Brazil before Lula is in office.

Are these Ivy League imperialist idiots talented enough, and more importantly coordinated enough, to FUBAR Brazil at the same time?

I don’t know. They couldn’t even pull off an invasion of Haiti. They are incompetent imperialists, kind of like the British leadership was in the 1950s. They’re sewing the seeds of their own downfall. I just hope they don’t take us with them.
