    Buzz Feed Fires back…

I kept waiting for the 4chan shoe to drop today and instead I came across this, Buzzfeed calling in to question the 4Chan:

…Wilson told BuzzFeed News that he doesn’t believe it’s a coincidence that Trump supporters are crediting 4chan.
“The eagerness of them grabbing on to this 4chan thing shows you that there’s some nervousness,” he said. “They don’t want him to be the guy who was pushed over the finish line by these forces that are overt enemies of our country.”

Comments from Reddit and 4chan seem to back up the idea that Trump supporters are organizing misinformation campaigns. Screenshots from 4chan threads are being tweeted at reporters. And there’s a coordinated effort on Reddit to get the CIA to be the first term on Google when you search “fake news.”
The misinformation campaign appears to be gaining steam.
If you google “4chan Trump” at the time of publishing, you get links to right-wing websites that are passing off the 4chan rumors as fact.

The top story on Google is currently “4Chan Claims To Have Fabricated Anti-Trump Report As A Hoax” written by a “Tyler Durden” on the website zerohedge.com. It has 10,000 shares on Facebook. In the first page of results, there are also write-ups by sites like neo-Nazi publication Daily Stormer, The Gateway Pundit, and The Free Thought Project…

I find it funny that this story is getting linked to US neo-nazis, while the people refuting this links the story to Ukranian neo-nazis…ain’t they the busy ones.

    4. Seems BuzzFeed is attempting to elevate itself above the Kardashians

and to Rick should really try harder when your BS gets busted it becomes something Trump supporters made up-hardly an original for the Hil-Bot crowd

      5. You need to read the other news stories.

The newest BBC story has it linked to a Republican Super PAC by way of the Brits. The buzzfeed story does a good job showing actual false 4chan posts and other posting edited versions and spoofs that include anime. So far there has been no legit proof for or against the story, the 4Chan has zero credible backers so far, and doubled down with some weird posts.  From the wording at the White house press conference it sounded like there was much more to this.

        6. lol I have read other news stories so far I'd say none of them have shown proof

and by zero credible backers who in your mind would be ‘credible’ here?

          7. Well the BBC is rated very high for trust.

They are one of the backers. Then there is the litany of people that have passed around the story for months. As they show in their time line the story predates the 4Chan post. The only places going the 4Chan route so far have been alt-right sites which is a bit odd since I fully expected to see Buzzfeed hit hard today instead all I saw were these fake reposts of the story, which matched the Buzzfeed story later that day. This is not about the other story being true, but it is about the 4Chan story being false, like I said the line from the WH made me think Trump was up to something other on the day of showers that they don’t want to admit to.

            9. The BBC has been lying about Syria, and you might want to google BBC news lies.

I think it foolish to trust any of the $MSM at this point.

You think the only reason that people won't vote for a warmongering Third Way fracking-enabling cluster bomb throwing H-1B increasing lying pandering corporate and Wall Street shill who says she has no problem putting abortion rights on the table is because we are mad about Bernie?  Um, nope.

            10. BBC is every bit as honest as CNN, NYT or WaPo

when it comes to a number of issues

              13. Sorry no.

CNN is far more reckless with facts and oten releases stories before fact checking good enough. They also have far too much filler and talking heads. NYT is perhaps a little better than WAPo, but WaPo really seems worse than CNN because they seem the worst in how they have gone out of their way. I would place BBC far above all of those. Who do you think is trustworthy?

                14. I disagree and in answer to your question -none

I myself don’t really trust any news source – there was a time when I did however the past 18 or so months have changed me, and I now approach all news in the same manner i used to reserve for I/P issues-trust no one and get the same story from several sources

                  15. There has to be a point of trust.

Or else you are Descartes  throwing out everything until you have nothing…well he then decided there was a good god despite his claims he threw out all of his teachings… i.e. the church. That and he never said I think therefore I am.

But I too think the more sources the better and the more logical the story as well as what personal bias may be in it. But it is annoying replying with sources when all you get is replies on how those are biased…everything is biased unless it is a calculator and you are only adding whole numbers under a certain value. My point was that no major news feed had picked on the chance to destroy buzzfeed for doing what it did. They could look like heros for doing such. Logically one would have run with it. They may have reduced the value saying the 4chan was only right about part of it, or such, but they would have. This is too juicy a story to not jump on. Just like I knew that the HRC emails would not come out until about a week or so before the election, along with her speeches…it was obvious.

              12. Lol.

I am just going off actual studies. The BBC is second to the the Economist I think as for as trustworthy. If you are going to get in to the game of questioning, I can’t help you. NPR used to be much better in many ways, now you need to parse much of what they say, but they are far better than many, PBS currently seems better than NPR, and BBC  is rated above them if I recall correctly.

    8. At this point I'm convinced that no hacking took place

The only sources of info on this are an on-line mag and some anonymous posters on a forum. Wonder why 4chan isn’t getting a cease and desist order for defaming someone…unless someone wants to start some shit on purpose.
