China has been been given a place on the UN Human Rights Council despite a long-record of human rights abuses.
The coronavirus outbreak originated in China late last year, reportedly in the ‘wet’ livestock markets in the city of Wuhan.
The country has recorded 3,326 deaths from coronavirus and 81,639 cases but many speculate that this number is much higher and that China is trying to cover up the true reality of the spread.
Delay and deceit over the origins of the outbreak cost precious time — and many thousands of lives both in China and subsequently in the rest of the world.
But now Jiang Duan, minister at the Chinese Mission in Geneva, has been appointed to the UN Human Rights Council’s Consultative Group where he will serve as the representative of the Asia-Pacific states.
Can things get any crazier?!!

It’s one of those organizations that shouldn’t be politicized. It’s very hypocritical and kind of surreal hearing westerners criticizing other governments for human rights violations.
As for China’s epidemiological figures for covid-19, I think theirs will be closer to the truth than those from the screeching, fear-mongering US media establishment.

daily mail racist horseshit
doesn’t say anywhere who ‘handed’ the seat to the chinese, or what the procedure is (if its standard or some extra-ordinary procedure) — just para after para about chinese evil; use of passive tense to elide any agency anywhere
this is all the background there is in a page long article:
“But now Jiang Duan, minister at the Chinese Mission in Geneva, has been appointed to the UN Human Rights Council’s Consultative Group where he will serve as the representative of the Asia-Pacific states.
He will serve as one of five representatives for blocs of countries and is joined by delegates from Spain, Slovenia and Chad.”
Daily Mail does their usual garbage run.

Ask an Irishman what he thinks of the British sitting on the Human Rights Council or a Native American about the US doing the same before you join in on the chorus condemning China.
I’m not going to get all hot and bothered over it. We do have bigger fish to fry much closer to home.
