Colin Powell Stuns MSNBC Host: Rips “Almost Hysterical” Coverage Of Fake Russia Bounty Story
- Total Posts: 287
When Colin Powell of all people has to appear on MSNBC to slam fake reporting you know mainstream media has lost the plot.
In a rare moment, the former Secretary of State under Bush slammed the wall-to-wall coverage of the Russian bounties in Afghanistan story as “almost hysterical”. It’s all the more awkard for MSNBC, which had him on the network Thursday to talk about it, given he’s one of those ‘never Trump’ Bush-era officials, who despite a legacy of having fed the world lie after lie to invade Iraq, has since been given “resistance hero” status among liberals.
Describing that military commanders on the ground didn’t give credence to The New York Times claim that Russia’s GRU was paying Taliban and other militants to kill American soldiers, Powell said the media “got kind of out of control” in the first days after the initial report weeks ago.
Colin Powell politely tells MSNBC that they (& many others) botched the Russian Bounty story w/ "hysterical" coverage. "Our military commanders did not think that it was as serious a problem as the newspapers were reporting & television was reporting… It got almost hysterical." pic.twitter.com/fue42WlWbv

Earlier this year, former vice president Joe Biden effectively won the Democratic Party primary contest. As The Canary has previously argued, his victory is nothing to celebrate given that his progressive credentials are paper thin. Throughout his political career, Biden has been a prolific supporter of war and cuts to social security. He’s also a friend of some of the most reactionary elements in the US congress.
Now, his campaign has started receiving funding from former officials of a previous Republican Party administration. And this shows decisively what has long been suspected by progressive political analysts and commentators – that the US essentially has two right-wing major parties.
‘43 Alumni for Biden’ is formed…
On 1 July, a new organization backing Biden and calling itself ‘43 Alumni for Biden’ appeared online. The number 43 refers to the US’s 43rd president, George W. Bush, a Republican. Bush’s presidency to this day is overwhelmingly associated with neo-conservativism and the so-called ‘Bush doctrine’ of ‘pre-emptive war’ that emerged in the aftermath of the 11 September, 2001 attacks.
Reuters reported that the group is made up of “hundreds of officials who worked for former Republican President George W. Bush” including “Cabinet secretaries and other senior people [who worked] in the Bush administration”. The fundraising entity is known as a ‘Super PAC’, which in US political parlance means it’s a non-party aligned ‘political action committee’. However, it has none of the limits to contributions of regular PACs, which are directly tied to an active campaign.
Colin Powell is part of this group. Believe me, Powell is no peacenik. It is not liberals who are cheering on this Lincoln Group or 43 Club or whoever they are, it is the conservative wing of the Democrats.

The same guy who repeated the lie about yellowcake uranium. OTOH, Powell is retired Army. Professional military people don’t always have a high opinion of spooks, especially CIA spooks. That goes all the way back to the CIA’s predecessor, the OSS, which Army people referred to as “Oh So Social,” since so many of the OSS folks were Ivy Leaguers during World War II.
They trust the NSA more, and the NSA said there was no there there on this Russian bounty bullshit. Besides, they know the Taliban will try to kill them whether they get a bounty to do so or not.
Still, one of the Good Republicans shits all over the Pravda-on-the-Hudson story. I chuckle at Democrat discomfiture.

Sounds about right. Trump’s reaction: “I know nothing. Have to find the leaker.”
They are called 'human' rights not "if politicians do not feel threatened" rights. Many politicians see national sovereignty/security as more important because they protect their power and wealth. Human rights often do just the opposite.
National issues (slavery/racism, income inequality, pandemics and pathetic health care, weak unions) are not solved with more states' rights. Global problems (climate change, migration, trade, war, pandemics) are not resolved with more national sovereignty.

We have over 2,000,000 in military jobs. We know some nutcakes take positions therein to overthrow the government. They will resort to just about anything to accomplish it. Similar things happen elsewhere with their military and paramilitary.
Now allegedly peaceful nations spy on each other and a few nutcakes plot the overthrow. So we have such things going on constantly.
Here is my listing of why Hill of Beans lost again in 2016:
1. Media giving Trump 6 times more free coverage. (Notice how they ignored Bernie to stifle his message?)
2. Hill of Beans too sick/lazy to campaign.
3. RW use her name to evoke the knee-jerk reaction on hate radio/tv
4. Comey did her dirty with that last second October surprise announcement
5. Dem based depressed. (Probably should be #2)
6. Nutcakes, not domestic, this means a handful from several countries engaging in mischief amounting to under 1% of all influence but NOT absolute zero.
Did anyone notice how the Russians interfered with the Dem resurgence in 2018? We were told non-stop that nothing had changed by the next “rigged by Russians” elections? Well, I did not. What about you? So what did change? Oh yeah, Hill of Beans was not running!
