    The Liberal Democrat leader, Jo Swinson, looks set to lose her seat, according to the exit poll, as her party faces a dismal showing in the general election.

    Swinson is forecast to lose her East Dunbartonshire seat to the SNP, which is predicted to seize 55 of the 59 seats on offer in Scotland.

    Though Lib Dem numbers in the Commons swelled before the election to 21, aided by MPs crossing the floor, the exit poll predicts the Lib Dems will win 13 seats – just one more than it did in 2017.

    The result represents a significant disappointment for the party, which had pinned its electoral hopes on attracting remain supporters with a pledge to revoke Brexit without a second referendum.

    It looks set to be the third-worst performance in party‘s 31-year modern history, following its capitulation from 57 to eight seats in 2015 after the coalition government with the Conservatives and 2017’s modest improvement to 12 elected MPs.

          Personally I don’t consider dictatorship of majority a good idea, but that’s what you get with referendum, and as we see, enough voters want the result of the referendum respected and the Brexit nightmare over and done with. Corbyn’s attempt to please both sides ended up not pleasing anybody.

      Holyrood can do nothing in terms of independence unless Westminster okays a 2nd referendum, which they never will under the Tories. Scotland goes nowhere, and neither does NI (The Unionists dominate NI politics). This blowout will be so big that BoJo will no longer need DUP to form a government, so you can also say goodbye the the Irish backstop and eventually hello to The Troubles 2.0 when the New IRA starts bombing shite at will and shooting Border stations up with the 2020’s versions of Armalite rifles once again.

      no, you have it completely flipped on its head in terms of causation

      Labour’s problem is that it’s breaking into 3 parties (1) liberal degree-holding Brahmin Left, (2) dwindling blue-collar, socially conservative Traditional Left, (3) students + ethnic minorities

      Combine that with an extremely poor, divisive leader like Corbyn and the shambolic Momentum ‘party-within-a-party’, and you get this disaster

      many Blairites have already fled to the Lib Dems (who got CRUSHED themselves tonight)

      Momentum needs to ripped out of Labour root and stem

        The steady union jobs of proles aren’t coming back. The white collar/professional manager upper class is not on our side, they want to keep their class society and upper class benefits. Precariat is the class that keeps growing, and it can go right populist as well, if left offers no alternative. And as long as the “left” stays ruling class project, it does not offer alternative. Momentum is/was attempt to try to find place for precariat in Labour. So, no? OK, here we go:

    Bolsover is forecast to go Conservative. This is going to be a huge, existential crisis for Labour.

    When I was in London back in May of this year, the impression I got regarding Brexit was the people just wanted for something to be done one way or the other, but quit screwing around and do something, get it done, and move on. The constant dragging of feet was making them weary. If that’s the way Londoners were feeling about Brexit, it seems the people outside the city had the same feeling. I never got out of the city to talk to others except a quick trip to Portsmouth to ferry to Saint-Malo. And just like in the US, what people are saying in the city isn’t always what you hear outside the city.

      I think it will survive, yes

      the Tories retook a LOT of the centre (this is newer info from when I wrote the original OP title) so I am a bit more upbeat

      they cannot go all slash and burn to THAT level without a riot running fast and hard and a bovver boot aimed straight at their jacobs

      the big danger is to put too much into the Corbyn and Sanders comparisons and then try and draw broad, sweeping conclusions about our UK politics compared to the US based off that

      we shall see what BoJo does, whether he lurches hard right (Farage scum style) or tries to govern as a semi national coalition builder and thus really improve the Tories chances for an even longer run of power

      I just want Brexit handled in a responsible way for starters

      it WILL happen

      there is not only NEVER going to be a 2nd referendum, BUT most all the cunts who campaigned on that (or worse, like Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson who brazenly said she would unilaterally REVOKE Article 50) got their arse handed to them

      Corbyn was also insanely incompetent on his flip flop wish wash bullshit straddle on Brexit

      I am SO done with him and Momentum, they fucking have to go (Corbyn is going to step down after they find a new leader)
