The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.....Martin Luther King '63

It takes all the technical proficiency our system can provide to make up for the woeful lack of popular support and political savvy of most of the regimes that the West has thus far sought to prop up.........Bernard Fall

There won’t be decent paying jobs, or enough work, unless that’s subsidized by foreign currency. The refugees won’t want to come back so as to wait on line for food, and suffer all the deprivations that usually go with that.

Ukraine’s economy is in a decline, which while bad is infinitely better then it being at rock bottom. People haven’t given up yet, and lots of Ukraine is still functional, almost normal. So with peace the decline can be reversed. It must be reversed or foreign investors won’t invest time, money, and material, unless their investments come with guarantees from Western governments.

Once locales get run by militias, and everything gets scavenged for scrap, that’s it.

Every day they wait to cut a deal will cost several days of rebuilding, and that will escalate.

Look at how Detroit declined, and that wasn’t hit by artillery fire.
