    1. Legend has it

that he was entombed in crystal and his body lay in rest in the great library of Alexandria until the second or third wave of barbarians sacked the city to destroy the knowledge.

Sounds a lot like the Republicans.

      2. You and I are on the same page on this one.

This quote struck me b/c Alexander had conquered most of the known world yet he KNEW he would leave the world with nothing.  I often wonder if any remnant of the Library of Alexandria will ever be found.

RE Republicans – They are grotesque in their deceit and ignorance.  They willingly tear apart anything that is good.  Ratfucker Paul Ryan is, in my opinion, pure evil and completely self absorbed for his 3 pieces of silver.  He can smile while denying millions of people access to basic health care.

        3. If I have the story right

The Library of Alexandria was a ‘nobles’ library meaning only nobles and high education individuals could actually enter the library. However, the library was very similar to a normal metropolitan library system today, there were many satellite libraries containing almost all the same information as copies for anyone to access.

We actually have a fairly impressive amount of the materials, but zero of the hidden treasures.

The last I knew, they think they know where it is (underwater now) but have no clue what still exists there.

          4. Interesting. It was allegedly the most comprehensive library ever, however,

I’m sure the libraries at Oxford and Cambridge can now rival that of Alexandria.

I will never ever understand why conquering armies destroy antiquities and libraries.  The US let the antiquities of Iraq be plundered and destroyed.  Isis has done it in Syria and Iraq.  It was done to the Buddah statutes in Afghanistan.   I wonder if the ancient codexes in Syria have survived.
