I had SO many modern things I could choose for “make-up” trivia, but decided to get all Medieval on you ….

Queen Elizabeth I’s white face powder contained what toxic ingredient?

(Looking up the answer is cheating… Don’t do it!)

Hell, no... I'm not giving up...

      Background:

In 18th-century Europe, it was fashionable for the upper classes to have skin of the palest white, as a way to show they did not have to work outside. To achieve this look, people applied a thick white paste known as Venetian ceruse, which was made from vinegar and lead. The toxic lead caused serious damage to the skin, hair loss, and sometimes even death.

You know about artists’ oil paint called lead white, right? It was still in use up until very recently. I never used it. I used titanium white, but almost any old/classic painting will have lead white in it. Lot of crazy artists around.
