This may be the most spectacularly under-discussed story of the pandemic:
A dataset of coronavirus cases and deaths from the military’s National University of Defense Technology, leaked to 100Reporters, offers insight into how Beijing has gathered coronavirus data on its population. The source of the leak, who asked to remain anonymous because of the sensitivity of sharing Chinese military data, said that the data came from the university. . . .
While not fully comprehensive, the data is incredibly rich: There are more than 640,000 updates of information, covering at least 230 cities—in other words, 640,000 rows purporting to show the number of cases in a specific location at the time the data was gathered. Each update includes the latitude, longitude, and “confirmed” number of cases at the location, for dates ranging from early February to late April.
It is worth noting that each of the 640,000 updates counts a number of cases, and that number may be more than one: “The dataset reports one case of coronavirus in a KFC in the eastern city of Zhenjiang on March 14, for example, while a church in the northeastern provincial capital of Harbin saw two cases on March 17.”

The truth is they probably had millions of people who were infected. Most just didn’t develop symptoms or recovered without being diagnosed.
Did the Chinese government seriously fudge the numbers? Sure they did. Think our government’s not doing the same?

You can bet our intelligence agencys knew this and was yelling at the White House to do something but Trump ignored them for January and February and into March

Pathetic! I got a kick out of the last line in this POS propaganda piece……..
“But the top priority of the Chinese government is to look masterly and in control at all times, leaving the rest of the world guessing at just how bad things are in that country.”

too perfect: the national review, suits trump’s goals
maybe true, maybe not. maybe pure propaganda.
maybe the us sent the bug to china via a us lab.
maybe it was the brits, from porton downs
maybe the chinese
I wish all the ‘leaders’ of all those places would catch the bug & die.
sick of the lot of them, they’re all useless, incompetent, and murderous.

True or false? Who knows, but it serves again to make
the Chinese the scapegoats. Fascinating though: The
Dems blame everything on Russia, and the Reps do
the counterpart with China. Perhaps jointly they will
concentrate on Iran.

Reverend: Hey, how’s it going?
Me: As usual, you caught me on my hands and knees in this place. (I was setting mics for the band)
Rev: (laughter) How are you doing?
Me: I am doing well, now the people in China maybe the beginnings of a pandemic. Would not want to be there, glad I am here!
Rev: What are you talking about?
Me: There seems to be another SARS outbreak, only this one has a twist! It seems as if people become contagious for two to seven days then get sick. The outbreak is in Wuhan, China and is spreading to other cities. China is going into lock-down. I do not want to sound like I am saying it is going to be the end of the world or something like that. My experience with SARS back in 2003 was not pleasant and lasted for several months. I have been hearing reports from different sources, both radio and print. Wuhan is an international city with lots people traveling to and from doing business. People may not know they even have a virus and are spreading it around. The Chinese and WHO are putting out information and do not get me started how Trump is going to deal with this. Like I said, I do not want to say it is the end of the world as we know it, but the next few months are going to be very interesting.
Rev: OK!
Me: Maybe it is Mother Nature’s way of telling us there is too many people on this planet…
Rev: (laughter)
My Reverend is a very smart person and I am glad he took that last line as a joke. But that is not the point here, if I knew of this virus back in January, why is it others in power not know? I listen to KPFK in Los Angeles, and they had several doctors on more than once talking about the reports coming from WHO and the Chinese Government and the consensus was we as a nation need to get on this now. This is at the end of January. There were also people noticing this event on the internet (this is how I was reading the WHO reports).
So here is the following questions, why did our government not know? How come the M$M did not know? How come our vast medical industry not know? All of these people did not know… What the fuck, do we live in the land of the stupid?

@mrdmk Faith-based government, faith-based currency, faith-based “science.” Faith-based American Exceptionalism. Faith-based “it cannot happen here.”
And policies built to serve private profit. Capitalism. There was no profit in preparing for a pandemic, therefore no action was taken.

And the CIA aren’t exactly pandemic experts. So it’s very likely they didn’t really pay a whole lot of attention to it.

they paid enough attention to give multiple reports of it to potus

You know I bet the reason Trump sat on this is the boys at big pharma were telling him not to worry that they could stop it and make him rich beyond belief

Your Reverend sounds like a good guy.
People knew – but those who would have done something didn’t have the power to. Trump and most on the right tried to play it off as a hoax. Many others simply did not respect the danger. Honestly, this is what happens when most elected officials are glorified lobbyists. The Trump administration has no respect for science or medicine – only money. Sadly most dems are the same.
The right claims their own “facts” and there is no one in a position of authority who can act on the National level to overrule them. Maybe the Supreme Court – but they also are too entangled in politics.
It comes down to leadership – we have none that is capable.

Just why they a they are lying about their numbers. To prevent a panic? To show competence? That would almost make sense – but the lies are too obvious. The numbers officially reported to the WHO are bull shit. I have no problem with China or the Chinese in general – their government sucks, but so does ours.
They must be damn good at silencing whistle blowers.

When they did, they lied about it. If they tell the truth as they know it now, then their own people would know that they had been lying, and they would lose face. Chinese people, especially government officials, hate to lose face. @davidthegnome
And they are damned good at silencing whistleblowers, far better than our own government.

They’re lying about cause of death. The increase above the usual monthly average deaths minus the “Official” COVID deaths still leaves tens of thousands of unexplained deaths.
