A tsunami believed to be triggered by a volcanic eruption killed at least 222 people in Indonesia during a busy holiday weekend, sweeping away hotels, hundreds of houses and a group of people attending a beach concert.
More than 800 were reported injured and 28 missing after the tsunami hit around the Sunda Strait on Saturday night, the Disaster Management Agency said. The toll could continue to rise because some areas had not yet been reached.
Scientists, including those from Indonesia’s Meteorology and Geophysics agency, said Sunday that the tsunami could have been caused by undersea landslides or those occurring above sea level on the Anak Krakatau volcano’s steep outside slope following the eruption. The volcano’s name translates to “Child of Krakatoa,” a volcanic island formed over years after one of the largest eruptions in recorded history occurred at the Krakatoa volcano more than a century ago.

This is some scary stuff!
I would like to remind you that U.S. health insurance companies do not contribute anything to health care. They are only a PARASITIC middle man receiving an undeserved cut of "FREE MONEY".

That one swallowed over a quarter of a million people in that same part of the world. One minute, you’re at work, eating with family, laughing with friends, at a concert… then, before you know what hit you, lights out.
So many earthquakes, volcano eruptions, freak storms – just in the last year alone. Now a tsunami… another humanitarian crisis while our pathetic government is in “partial shutdown”. Not that they would be likely to help much anyway.
Damn. I wonder when something like this, or worse, will happen in America? I wonder how many outside of it will care?

it can happen here. If Mt. Rainier or Mt. Hood ever go active again, it is very bad news for Seattle and/or Portland.

They get huge quakes and Tsunamis every 300 years or so from the Cascade subduction zone. And the last one was in 1700. One can see it in the sediment records along the coast and in Puget Sound.
No one can predict when it will slip next, but it is going to bring a world of hurt on that area when it does.
