Defense Secretary Jim Mattis announced his resignation on Thursday evening, writing in a letter to President Donald Trump that their views on numerous issues, including respecting allied nations and Russian aggression, are not in alignment. “Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects,” Mattis wrote, “I believe it is right for me to step down from my position.” The retired Marine Corps general wrote in the letter that his resignation will be effective on February 28, 2019.

Only minutes before, President Trump had announced via Twitter that Mattis will be retiring in February. “General Jim Mattis will be retiring, with distinction, at the end of February, after having served my Administration as Secretary of Defense for the past two years,” Trump wrote. “A new Secretary of Defense will be named shortly. I greatly thank Jim for his service!”

…were about Russian & Chinese authoritarianism. Take a guess which one of the two is FOR it.

Now we will see all the psuedo-left praise him as an exemplary general rather than the war monger he was.

Trump has no stake in Hillary’s Syria war, but the Deep State does.  (Mattis is career military, needed a Congressional waiver to be SECDEF because his service ended too recently.)

Let Assad “win” his civil war?  Damn right.  I don’t like Assad and Putin, but at least they won’t be decapitating random Americans.  Assad stopped fighting ISIS after US threatened action for “interfering with peaceful demonstrations”, if I remember correctly.

Bush was smart enough to stay the hell out of Syria.  Too bad Obama wasn’t.

I’m thinking of Colin Powell and his TV appearance to convince the nation that Saddam Hussein was the next Hitler. Resignation is always an option.

That could mean some short piece of excrement like Lindsay Graham.

      Too bad! So sad!

Which ally was he referring to? Israel, Saudi Arabia, France, … or the Kurds?

The few people who were sane and kept Trump from doing something REALLY stupid are all gone. The members over at Miltary.com are discussing this, and one of them posted an old Mencken quote.  Here it is:

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
      H. L. Mencken
The Baltimore Evening Sun July 26, 1920

      It seems appropriate.

and that’s what serving under Trump does to some creditable folks.

As he eventually rides off into the sunset, he can still hang his head high for barely surviving Trump. Why anyone (with half a brain) goes to work for Trump amazes me, but I suppose that they actually thought that they could either manage or change him. I sure the hell never thought that, but then, I’m a dumbass.

I suppose that while Trump hangs down at Mar-a-Lago he’ll put out application forms to fill these current vacant posts. We all know that it’s Trumps best recruiting office.
