Democracy in Decline on WNYC Must listen!!!!

Listened with great interest and disgust to this segment on the Brian Lehrer show yesterday.  I think it is crucial to our understanding of events, past and present, and portents for the future. Moreover, i think it’s important to share with people who may not be as “plugged in” as we are because it effects the entire world, and generations to come. I’m not sure we can stop this unless we stop the United States from continuing along these lines, and I don’t think that is ever going to happen.

PS – @marym625 et al  — sorry for dropping off the radar; last week’s technological glitch lead to MANY OTHER glitches and discoveries that I’m still plowing through but I am (hopefully) almost done with that.  PM me (or Mary you can text my cell – always the quickest way to get to me) if you need me in the meantime. YES I’M STILL GOING TO CHICAGO :)

      1. Thanks, Zilla — your link is invaluable

The website is wonderful but they’re not playing it now, and it didn’t even come up on a search.  But yeah, your link works great.

        7. WNYC is probably the best radio station in the country

I LOATHE NPR but I do love me my local affiliate. LOTS of great original programming and I listen to Brian Lehrer and Leonard Lopate every day. Except for when Jonathan Capeheart filled in for Leonard when he went on vacation last year. I don’t give a shit what that asshole has to say ever.

948c8f248a Thank you DNC, Hillary Clinton, The Hillary Clinton Players, GOP, RNC and CrossCheck for Trump. Enjoy it while it lasts. The Revolution may not be televised but it's beginning. And we'll win

      3. Sorry, but Brian Klaas comes across like a Clintonite neocon.

Totally buys into the “Assad gassed his people” story and thinks Sarin gas was used.

Says the most important thing is to depose Assad.

Rejects all 911 theories but the official one.

Thinks the U.S. mass media is just fine as is.

      etc.

      Oh please.

On edit:  he also identified Iran, Syria, and Russia as our main enemies.  It’s like he was talking out of the neocon playbook.

        5. Hey lady!

I didn’t agree with everything he said but as far as I am concerned the takeaway is undiminished – we have to stop propping up dictators and orchestrating regime change.  Just because he has an opinion (and that’s all it is) that Iran, Syria and Russia are our main enemies does not at all water down the fact that the United States – aided by our tax dollars – are doing some truly awful shit all over the world. And to that end we are one of the major factors in the decline in thriving democracies around the world…including our own.

        11. I agree, senz. While some of what he says appeals to me

I cannot go along with how he asserts that Assad gassed his people. And I consider the U.S. mass media to be so excellent that I am actively boycotting it in its entirety.

      13. Fast-talkin' flim-flam man who gets everything backward.

The sad thing is Democrats are going to buy this system of world diplomacy. We’re screwed…

        15. We just have to resist it. Any way we can.

        That’s the true “resistance.”

I may be living in fantasy land but I believe putting the truth out there, even in message boards, helps.  Sort of a ripple effect.

          18. With you on the keyboard activism. I just gets exhausing paddling upstream

against the two-party monolithic current. I never thought I’d have to fight Democrats so hard to get them to support liberal policy.

            20. If you're a canoeist, maybe you know about salmon?

Up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up the stream…for the future, for life itself, for the Galaxy, for the Cosmos, for the hell of it, whatever, Up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up the stream, because it’s fun, because “up” is there, because we can leap, oh, yes!  Up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up the stream we go, never say die, never give up, we are beautiful, we are sleek, we are good to eat, ha, ha, ha, Up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up the stream, merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, up the stream we go!

              21. Then again…"life is but a dream"! :)

              Gotta remember to live it!

                22. True that. But salmon do their dreaming in the ocean…

…but when it comes to providing protein for the only known sentient life in the Cosmos, it’s up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up the stream…for the future, for life itself, for the Galaxy, for the Cosmos, for the hell of it, whatever, Up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up the stream, because it’s fun, because “up” is there, because we can leap, oh, yes!

Like that.  We need to learn from the higher species around us who sacrifice everything to keep the protein moving through this system, to never give up, to just keep on, to believe we have a purpose, to worship life, to not be daunted, to learn from our dreams to go where no one has gone before, up, up, up the stream…

(I didn’t intend to make a rhyme.  It just happened.  Why are the salmon on my mind at this curl of the Great Spiral?  I dunno.  They just are.  It’s Spring here.  Lovely spring rain yesterday.  Lovely sun today.  Lots of photosynthesis occurring.  Frogs making funky noises.  Birds.  BIRDS!  And nearby the wee salmon fingerlings wiggling down the stream, to dream, to dream….)

                  23. It's the season of renewal, sap and herring runnin' at once!

                  “April, come she will

When streams are ripe and swelled with rain
                  May, she will stay
                  Resting in my arms again…”
