(Politico) House Democrats will keep a decades-old ban on government funding for abortion in spending bills this year, dodging an election-year clash with Republicans and disappointing liberal lawmakers and activists.

Senior Democrats had been considering scrapping the so-called Hyde amendment, which has restricted federal funding for most abortion services since 1976, amid a hard push from the party’s left flank.

But Democratic leaders ultimately decided to keep the language to avoid a brutal fight they were unlikely to win with a GOP-led Senate, according to multiple aides and lawmakers. Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats ultimately agreed it wasn’t the right time to make the push, with the party potentially just one election away from controlling the House, Senate and White House and able to enact more sweeping policy changes.

Repealing the language also risked flaring tensions within the Democratic caucus, with vulnerable moderates anxious about an abortion battle on the House floor just months before voters go to the polls.

When it was found out he was playing Hyde-the-salami?

Can’t we just forget about him and relinquish him to a Trivial Pursuit card?

Now there’s absolutely no reason for the Right Wing money laundering operation known as “Emily’s List” to exist.

Their entire business plan was electing “pro-choice” Republican women to office as “Democrats” without giving 1/666th of a shit what their positions were on any other issue.

Now that they can’t even support the one issue they bought their way into office to support, why should they exist any longer??

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go deliver this news to Henry Hyde in person. I’m sure he will get a great laugh out of it…. in between the dragons having “youthful indiscretions” with him.

@captainarizona It’s never the “right time” for anything progressive with the Vichy Dems, is it? 2009 wasn’t the right time for a public option. It was never the right time for gay marriage until the Supreme Court intervened. It was never the right time to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s still not the right time for UBI even though tens of millions face eviction. The list is endless.

@doh1304 I certainly don’t see them taking over the party in time to prevent any of the impending catastrophes we face. The Democrats betray them every time. Yet, as you say, they never learn.

The D puppet regime will never give up power. They will have to be removed, but will probably take the party with them. The earliest that can happen is 2022, and it will be a miracle for a “new” party to take the Presidency after only 2 years in existence. So the 2020s will be hell.

Thank you for mentioning all this.

      Emily’s LIST is a scam.

Human Rights Campaign is a scam.

There a good number of organizations, claiming they are fighting for people, because they are at risk, who are running scam operations.
