Woe is me. I’m in agreement with Democrats. It happens sometimes. This article is from The Hill, and I agree with the Democrats who are saying it’s already too late to contain the coronavirus. From it:

      (skip)

“We are not flattening the curve right now,” Giroir, the assistant secretary for health at the Department of Health and Human Services, told House lawmakers on Thursday. “The curve is still going up.”

Democrats say the reason is no mystery. They’re accusing President Trump of botching the administration’s coronavirus response by initially downplaying the seriousness of the threat and later spurning the mask wearing, social distancing and other preventative measures proposed by Fauci and his health team.

“We need a grown-up in charge because in states like mine, you don’t have strong, courageous leadership. You need that from the White House. And until we have that — and I don’t think we’re going to get that — I’m really, really worried for everyone in our country,” said Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas).

“This is terrifying,” she added. “I’m afraid we’re spinning out of control.”

      Full story here.

She’s right. It’s out of control. New closures of businesses, except those that can’t or won’t maintain any type of social distancing, won’t do any good unless you’re  a vulture capitalist. It’s too late. The only thing to do now is to require masks or shields and social distancing at a national level, and I don’t see that happening.

That means it will be up to state and local governments, and that means inconsistency and more vectors for the virus to spread. Without a national health care system and without some form of UBI and rent relief you cannot advocate for lockdowns and closures of everything unless you want to see tens of millions of homeless people in the next few months and even more dead small and medium businesses, because that’s exactly what’s going to happen if nothing is done about rent relief and employers are forced to stay closed or reclose.

The best we can do at this point is to wear masks or shields, and reopen most things with social distancing enforced. Either that, or roll the iron dice on what may come when we have 30 or 40 million people with absolutely nothing left to lose. We can’t have it both ways in America. It just ain’t happening. This is what we get for electing every President from Reagan to Trump.

We have been losing this battle since the first warning tRump ignored why back in January. The things that needed to be done were totally ignored and we have never even tried since then. I am specifically talking about equipment for vital workers. Had that been addressed immediately I doubt we would have had so many cases.

or, in other words, resuming the consumerist status quo, when what we really need is economic de-growth and a controlled crash of human populations. None of them (political leaders in any country) are serious about addressing the collapsing global ecology, and neither are those who disseminate propaganda that is clearly meant to maintain a level of anxiety among the population for ulterior political motives.

Unfortunately even masks have become politicised.

Revolutions are by definition difficult to control, even by the revolutionaries themselves.

Yes, you’re right about the motivations of the capitalists about reopening, but the price of NOT reopening without UBI and rent relief is likely to be paid in blood. @yanath

Controlled population reduction and switching to some economic system that does not require growth and continued raping of the environment are optimal solutions. Who knows? That might be happening in an alternate universe right now, but it’s not going to happen in this one.

I have said it before and I will say it again. This country has become so atomized that we no longer remember HOW to respond collectively to a national emergency.

This is the ultimate episode in the war of all against all.

This is what you get for voting for the consumerism based on Petrodollar empire in every election. This is what you get from basing your economy on blatant imperialist looting. This is what you get basing life on a big fat lie. This is what you get from American Exceptionalism of not caring about others and being so loud about how much you don’t care.

      Aloha!

… people will die.  Congress and Trump bailed out businesses but not the people, same as happened in 2008, and there was never going to be a good way out of this.  Under democratic control, it still isn’t going to happen.  So yes, a lot of people will get this and a lot of people will die.  My hope is that people realize what would have needed to be done and that our “leaders” are completely incapable of doing it.  Both sides.  We need a completely different type of leadership – one that works to do the best for the country and not for their rich friends.

What do you mean??? Action was taken. They packed up all the N-95 masks and sent them to China.

The DNC “big tent” excludes Nina Turner but includes John Kasich.
