Instead, Democrats are sticking to their original plan, and channeled Exxon Mobil in an announcement refusing to bar members who take fossil fuel money.

December 2018 – Democratic leaders on Thursday tapped Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) to head a revived U.S. House panel on climate change, all but ending a dramatic month long effort to establish a select committee on a Green New Deal.
Castor’s appointment came as a surprise to proponents of a Green New Deal. The move also kicked off a controversy as the six-term congresswoman dismissed calls to bar members who accept money from fossil fuel companies from serving on the committee, arguing it would violate free speech rights.
Despite weeks of protests demanding House Democrats focus efforts next year on drafting a Green New Deal, the sort of sweeping economic policy that scientists say matches the scale of the climate crisis, Castor told E&E News the plan was “not going to be our sole focus.”
She then suggested that barring members who have accepted donations from the oil, gas and coal industries from serving on the committee could be unconstitutional.
“I don’t think you can do that under the First Amendment, really,” she said.

That was his Green New Deal: he wanted to encourage Green energy.
The people put on yellow vests and rioted in the streets at the idea of sacrificing for Mother Earth.
Maybe the Dems don’t want riots.
“Green” is all very nice and everyone sure lurves the environment — except when saving it impoverishes them.

Perhaps a “New Deal” should be handled in a non-neo liberal fashion?
Force auto manufacturers to go electric. Force utilities to go wind, solar, and nuclear. Force alternatives to plastic bottles (when I was a kid, tap water was almost exclusively used). Force a change in consumer based economics so that people are not led by the nose to use excessive carbon.
Tax the poor out of finding a job or the working class out of commuting to work? Of course there will be riots. Especially if it perceived that the ultra wealthy institutions do not have equal skin in the game.
The yellow vests are not rioting entirely because of carbon tax. There is a multitude of issues, including wealth inequality, that they are angered about. Expecting the working class to singularly carry the load to save earth while industry and commerce continue down their current wasteful path only invites resentment.

She will realize the neo-libs are not on her side and will side with conservatives over her. Welcome to the Plutocracy Ms. Cortez.
Forcing people to work without pay is akin to slavery.
