Democratic leaders on Thursday tapped Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) to head a revived U.S. House panel on climate change, ending a dramatic monthlong effort to establish a select committee on a Green New Deal.
Castor’s appointment came as a surprise to proponents of a Green New Deal. The move also kicked off a controversy as the six-term congresswoman dismissed calls to bar members who accept money from fossil fuel companies from serving on the committee, arguing it would violate free speech rights.
Despite weeks of protests demanding House Democrats focus efforts next year on drafting a Green New Deal, the sort of sweeping economic policy that scientists say matches the scale of the climate crisis, Castor told E&E News the plan was “not going to be our sole focus.”
She then suggested that barring members who have accepted donations from the oil, gas and coal industries from serving on the committee could be unconstitutional.

those same creatures to deny seats on a committee that addresses climate change to critters who are in the pockets of the oil and coal industries. Seems the “private club” as political party argument is glaringly and conveniently inconsistent.
I think most of us expected something like this, but if the Vichy Dems think people like AOC and Bernie are just going to go away, they’re going to be very disappointed.

I think AOC will continue to try everything to expose and break up the corporatists and I will support her.

Free speech for a lifeless world.
Hope we leave enough archeological finds for some alien race to discover that speech was “protected” for our donor class until the bitter end.
Speaking of money as speech (ie. the argument for the Citizens United ruling by the Supreme Court), it is blatantly obvious that the Democratic Party has completely bought into the concept of money as a form of speech. In other words, the party has become too corrupt for us to ever hope for change from within.
We are headed toward our own version of “Yellow Vests” folks.

keep trying to elect progressives, and secondarily elect just any vichy Dem with a “D”, and that will eventually make things better. The DNC/Democratic Party is saying NO. We will strangle Progressive legislation in its infancy. How can anyone not see that, and how can anyone still be saying vote blue no matter who? That is to me (and IMO) the real trolling effort. The “oh I am a grownup and you people who won’t stay in the party and vote for the Democratic Party con-men are just babies” type of F***ery I read here at times. That is Brock crap.
