For now, the package has stalled on a vote of 56-44, not enough to clear the 60-vote hurdle needed to advance.
Coming amid the partial government shutdown, Democrats said they will block the bill until government is reopened. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer opposed proceeding to the legislation. Other Democratic senators who supported the substance of the bill followed suit.

“This is the U.S. where boycotting is a right & part of our historical fight for freedom & equality,” Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib said in a weekend tweet. “Maybe a refresher on our U.S. Constitution is in order, then get back to opening up our government instead of taking our rights away.”

“Any contention that the bill infringes upon First Amendment rights is simply wrong,” said AIPAC’s Marshall Wittman by email. “It ensures Israel has the means necessary to defend itself-by itself-against growing threats and helps protect the right of states to counter boycotts against Israel.”
This bill says that in order to do any work for the US Government (National, State, County, City, etc.) I must do the following… You say the words “…bill…” and “…infringes…”, the words are more like “…edict…” and “…tramples…” attached to an Authoritarian Boot into my state of mind. As far as growing threats to Israel, like what growing threats? Ever since the 1993 Oslo agreement and the 1996 Oslo amendment those threats have declined into a state of non-existence. Maybe, just maybe if the State of Israel did not replace an assassinated PM Yitzhak Rabin, a man of peace with PM Benjamin Netanyahu, a man of war, the Middle East and Israel would be a different place now.
Your fiction and propaganda in your e-mail is beyond stupid, and since stupid begets stupid, this bill is stupid. End of story.

He was one of the PNAC signators who pretended to be a “Democrat” back in the Chimp/Cheney days. Figured he would be hiding in a country without an extradition treaty by now.

It will pass eventually, unless the public really makes a fuss. A majority of us probably dont even know – and among those that do – it probably has support from nellibs and neocons.
This isnt a stand on principle. Its “We will do it, but open the government first so we dont get burned at the stake! Please! Let us sign! We cant wait!”
