Dianne Feinstein deserves thanks. But here’s why California should jettison her

She was wrong to vote for the Iraq war. She was wrong to be the lead sponsor of the Patriot Act and then to push for its extension. She was wrong to support President George W. Bush’s expansion of the National Security Agency in conducting surveillance on U.S. citizens and collecting metadata.

She was wrong to introduce legislation to outlaw encryption, compromising the personal data and privacy of consumers. And she has consistently been wrong about restricting speech online, including supporting The Stop Online Piracy Act, which faced a backlash from netroots activists and millennials.

Apart from her problematic voting record, she has failed to show leadership on issues of income inequality. She has not offered any pathway to Medicare for All, even being dismissive of the goal itself.

She has failed to lead on issues of debt-free college. She has not introduced bold proposals to increase wages for working families. Although she undoubtedly shares core Democratic values, she is not pushing the envelope to offer an alternative to the current economic system, which so many Americans believe is rigged against them.

      8. My bet digging will show she got money from the NRA crowd in 2012…

… when she tried to make a big deal about her putting forth a bill to bring back control on assault weapons right after Sandy Hook then, but AT THE SAME DAMN TIME, she shut down Senator Merkley’s efforts to update the filibuster rules that would require only a majority vote, but also require that the majority allow for long speeches by the minority part of the Senate to make their case to the American public instead of the huge number of *silent* filibusters the Republicans were doing then before the Neoliberal Dems f’d up the party Senate majority in subsequent years.  She probably knew at the time by her voting against these rule changes (one of only around seven Democrats to do so), that her own bill would get voted down, so that she could LOOK like she was working for the American people, but in reality working for the corrupt elite campaign donor bribists then!

Vote AGAINST the race to the bottom by both corporate parties who seek to screw workers over globally!

    3. California has given us Nancy Pelosi and Dianne Feinstein and wanted to

give us Hillary Clinton.  And they think they should, really, be in charge of who governs everybody else.  No thank you.

    • *Obligatory disclaimer - when I say "Democratic Party" I mean the DNC - the Clintons and the un-elected people and the consultants and the lobbyists and the corporations who actually run things.  The people who work and vote and are registered as "D" are no more the actual party than Trekkies are Star Trek.   Extra credit - the Democratic Party gets to actually fuck up your life. When you vote for it.
You think the only reason that people won't vote for a warmongering Third Way fracking-enabling cluster bomb throwing H-1B increasing lying pandering corporate and Wall Street shill who says she has no problem putting abortion rights on the table is because we are mad about Bernie?  Um, nope.

      5. To be fair,

California has also given us Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.

Um, I think I doubled down on your point…..

Policy:  The mistaken notion that bossy people have that they can influence other people's behavior through majority rule.

        6. Yup. And foisting arrangements are being made for Kamala Harris.

    7. DiFi has long past her "sell by date." Most of those votes were when she was 60

or older, and a frightened, fearful older woman with a rich moneybags husband, Richard Blum.  She clings to power and her delusions of trying to save George Moscone and Harvey Milk back in 1978 by sticking her dirty fingers into their wounds “in order to stop the bleeding.”  With a first-responder like her, no wonder they died.  Just retire to San Francisco and enjoy all your many millions, and take Nancy Pelosi with you.

    9. thanks for what? writer says

    1.  47 years of ‘service’
    2. leading voice on gun safety legislation
    3. trailblazer for women (she took office in 1970 so i believe she wasn’t blazing the trail really – other women in similar offices before her)
    4. often delivered for california (e.g. got funding for caltrain electrification)

i dunno, i don’t know much about california politics, but it doesn’t sound like anything special for nearly 50 years of work.  pretty average/below average and nothing special unless someone here knows more
