DNC warns Cuomo that moving primary day would come with consequences

The Democratic National Committee warned New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo Friday that moving up the state’s primary election day would come with consequences.
Cuomo’s desire to change the Democratic primary from April 28 to February came up at a DNC Rules and Bylaws meeting Friday and was quickly dismissed by leadership.
“Moving into the February pre-window would be a violation of the DNC timing rules,” said Jim Roosevelt, co-chair of the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee. “And those whose memories stretch back to 2008 will remember that we do not take violations of the timing rule lightly and we would take appropriate action if that were to happen.”
I feel much better since I gave up hope.

A rare occurrence! How often do you get to wish for both sides of a dispute to lose?

Really, the DNC needs those later primaries in case they have to rig them in order to stifle a progressive candidate, if that candidate is proving too popular for the DNC’s plans. It takes time to fuck with the voter rolls, close polling places, and get all of those provisional (throwaway) ballots ready, too!

the DNC might be DIYDDIYD–they needed to play around with early states like SC and CA to say “hey, Sanders isn’t universally popular”–and now they’re talking how Biden doesn’t need IA and NH!
plus now their alternative (of all people) is Warren, who has no “key demographic” like Harris and Biden (supposedly) do–how would they explain some surge by her/Harris/Biden in April?

Maybe that’s why Cuomo wants to move the primary up… so that if Bernie wins it, he won’t get the delegates he should.
