Do you receive Social Security? Laugh like I did!

Just a little comparison, in case it helps. Shake your head if you face the same thing.

    2016 : received

    gross monthly amount=$1155.90M

    Medicare Medical insurance=Part B -104.90

    Net: $1051.

Now for 2017: To be received  $1159.00

    Medicare Medical Insurance=Part B-108.00

Net: 2017: Exactly the same as 2016. $1051.00

So much for any cost of living increase..

The figures do not represent the Part D(RX drugs) that cost me $87.30, up from $84.20.

Words escape me—or I’d rather not print them. Good luck to you too.

What is left is all I have to live on each month. Many others face the same thing. I think this is a big joke on all of us who paid all our working lives into the system.

      5. Took SS at 62. Not yet 65 so no

Medicare deduction. My cost of living increase was less than 2.00. And I never hear anything about the SS  payment schedule which for me is second Wednesday of the month. This varies monthly between the 8th and 14th and causes a lot of hardship when I’m waiting up to an extra 6 days for the damn money. My creditors don’t want to hear any excuses. Why not pay on the same calendar day each month? Just adds insult to injury.

        9. Similar thing here,

On the 22nd of each month, I am notified by my bank that the SS check has arrived…however, it is not valid until the 28th. What is with that? Chicken soup for another week!

I pay my bills on the 10th of every month. It is great fun to wait until the 28th to be able to buy groceries. My kitty comes first, then me. She has no idea how stupid the whole system is. If they cut out benefits, I am sunk, along with so many others. What a stinking system!

PS. We need a “Seniors” group so we can all complain together! To those younger than us, I hope you fight hard to keep what little you will get. I have children working and paying into a system that may put the screws to them too.

          14. Social Security is paid on a Wednesday every month.

Mine is the 3rd Wednesday of the month. But it is always on a Wednesday.

        28. Ah, SS disability

you have to go without working for two years (due to denial time, reapplying, being denied again, then being allowed to get an attorney involved, who takes 20% of the payout), then finally get approved after a 20 minute meeting between you, your lawyer, and the SS judge. Then, they set you up on a stupid payout plan (the second Wednesday of every month). Most people give up or go broke (we almost did)- that is what they count on.

      6. I got $10 less to actually spend in 2016 this year I will get $17 less

a month for a total of $27 less a month from 2015. It seems they have figured out how to do chained CPI through the back door with our medical coverage.

      8. Yep, same thing happend to my check.

The SS COLA was entirely taken up by the raise in the Medicare premium. And this is after the $0 increase last year. I guess no other costs went up for 2 years. What’s funny is that they can’t understand why we didn’t vote for more Democratic leadership in November.

      11. As it was explained to me…

The cost of medical expenses went up more than inflation, but by law Medicare can’t rise faster than the cola.

      12. This year I only got a $2 a month increase but in past years when I was living

in government housing any increase I go automatically went to a rise in the cost of housing and health care. The only reason I support COLA’s is because our soldiers get a raise – otherwise for all I care it can go. But it will not go because IF I am not mistaken there is also an automatic raise for congress and the Supreme Court.

      13. Same thing here. New SS amt. minus new Medicare amt = same income as last year.

Only I didn’t laugh.  I called ‘them’ several choice names and immediately called my reps to complain about the change to CSI (?) calculations for all increases.

But I WILL shake my head for you…

      THANKS OBAMA!

      16. I recently turned 65 and now have to pay for medicare.

I’m not sure why, since I have government retiree health care.

Now my ss is 877 because of it. I did find out I can suspend my healthcare

and if I need it I can reinstate it. So if they do something to Medicare I

can get my coverage back. I feel luckier than most, so I won’t complain.

        17. Careful with that

Medicare can be reinstated, but there is a penalty if you stop paying your premium. I think that to get back on Medicare, one has to pay all of the monthly premiums that they missed, plus a ten-percent penalty! It’s criminal, but that’s how it is.

I’m going to suspend my health insurance with the government retiree program.

      18. How odd!

I am on Social Security Disability SSD, and I make slightly more than you, but MediCal (AKA Medicaid in most states) pays my Medicare premium for me. If I had to pay my medicare premium, my rent in California would be more than my monthly SSD paycheck! The only way I can begin to survive (and that, just barely) in this state is to get housing assistance, too. And considering that D-Rump just put the walking dead, Ben Carson, in control of HUD, heaven help us all!!

Or maybe you can buy some real bread, not the junk stuff. The increase won’t even but a gallon of milk.

Damn the whole thing. It is a cruel joke played on those of us who paid our freight along the way!

      22. They have turned SS into a hidden Tax

We’re all paying into an insurance program that Washington has decided to demean us by referring  to as an Entitlement Program as they siphon off the surplus with no intention of paying back.

Funny how the Tax Revolt crowd never seem to mention the  $Trillions owed to SS

      24. In Pennsylvania, the State would pay your part B given your income.

You should check your state’s welfare office if your state offers a similar payment.  It is state specific.
