FBI Director James Comey Takes On New Role Fact-Checking the President’s Tweets

    Robert Mackey
    March 20 2017, 5:15 p.m.

In a first for social media, James Comey, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was asked to say under oath on Monday if the official Twitter feed of the President of the United States was lying about the  testimony he was still giving.

The extraordinary moment came shortly after Comey had confirmed to the House Intelligence Committee that there is indeed an ongoing counterintelligence investigation of Russian interference in the election of Donald Trump as president and “whether there was any coordination” between the Trump campaign and the Russian effort.”

Comey also stated categorically that there was no evidence to support the conspiracy theory that former President Barack Obama had ordered the wiretapping of Trump Tower, speculation Trump himself had stated as fact in a moment of Breitbart-induced delirium earlier this month.

After those revelations, Comey and Michael Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, were asked by Rep. Devin Nunes, the Republican chair of the intelligence committee and a former member of Trump’s transition team, if they had any evidence that Russian hackers had tampered with the counting of votes in the small number of states that swung the electoral college in Trump’s favor. Both men replied that they did not.

Video of that exchange was soon posted on the president’s official Twitter account, @POTUS, which is managed by Trump’s former caddy and current social media director, Dan Scavino. The president’s Twitter spokesman, however, added a caption which mischaracterized the testimony of the two men as proof that “Russia did not influence electoral process.”

    1. The Morning Intel Hearings were Brutal to watch…

I’m glad that Glen’s “Intercept” and  Robert Mackey focused on a part of the the hearings that I may have missed, since I only was able to watch the Morning Hearings and not the Afternoon, but this is what My Conclusions Were from the Morning Hearings which was upsetting:

I replied here on a thread:

    13. If anyone has been watching the Comey House Intel Hearings this morning
it’s seemed to me to have been a total “The Russians Interfered in the elections because they wanted Trump” from both Repubs and Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee. Comey also said outright that Russia and Putin wanted Trump to win and that was after he had done a constant “No Comment” to other questions.  At least Comey admitted that the Russians hadn’t interfered in any of our State Elections.

Podesta email hacking was mentioned several times but Not What the Podesta emails Revealed.  They are going big time after Michael Flynn (want him prosecuted) but never revealing the money Podesta took from the Russians.  Also RT mentioned as Propaganda Arm of Putin and that RT spread disinformation during the campaign because Putin wanted Trump to win.  So, in their judgement, anyone who watches RT America is considered a Putin sympathizer willing to except Russia Propaganda because he can control our minds.

Comey also said, quote: “Russia is undermining our Democracy.”  NSA Head Mike Rogers agreed.

They seem to be pushing  that Trump got elected because of Putin’s disinformation, propaganda causing Rust Belt voters to elect him with no seeming awareness or understanding that Hillary Lost because of her Campaign’s lack of focus on the issues that voters cared about–plus, the information her leaked emails uncovered concerning the Clinton Foundation Global Initiative’s (possible criminal) business dealings, along with the revelations in the Podesta emails of interference by DNC/Donna Brazille and other Dem Ops to take the vote away from the “People’s Candidate” Bernie Sanders.

Both Repubs and Dems focused on Putin and Ukraine.  The assessment by some reps of both parties was that Putin invaded Ukraine and has interfered not only with their elections, but has put the U.S. Elections and the coming European Elections in jeopardy by their hacking.

By focusing on Putin and Russia they leave out everything else about why the 2016 Election turned out the way it did.

      2. A selective agenda. The Democrats should have been satisfied by what

was confirmed and this next round could go on for years and why they believe they’ll benefit in the end is a political gamble they appear to embrace..full steam ahead. I am not suggesting there should be no independent investigation, there should be, yet all I hear is incessant innuendo and it consistently sounds invested in she would not have lost if not for Russia.

It doesn’t look as though they’ll have enough legal cause to go after his taxes which I would like to see. Then you have questions about the agenda of Comey and the CIA…it’s a party of agendas. The Democrats are not going to talk about the content of those e-mails and I doubt in the end anyone will trust the results of the investigation…its polluted on many levels. Context is important and decisive conclusions require pretty damn solid evidence…I’m not hopeful we’ll be satisfied with the results.

        3. Both Dems and Repubs on the Intel Committee this Morning

seemed to be on the Same Side.  Repubs pushing that “Russia Hacked the U.S. Election” and “Wikileaks was an arm of Putin” by revealing the leaks given to them by the Russians.  The Dems were all about investigations needing to be done to prove that Russia was intent on Hacking the U.S. Elections because the Russians are involved in Ukraine and seek further territory.

The general consensus of the questions by both Repubs and Dems was that Putin/Russia want to make sure their Political/Propaganda can control the American Public who watch RT– which they stated is an arm of the Putin Government.  RT was mentioned many times in the hearings as Putin’s Propaganda and Disinformation fed to the American Public.  Which is weird because while RT has many worldwide viewers, I doubt that enough USA watchers were going to the polls like Zombie followers of Putin. Which leads me to believe:  “What the Hell are They So Afraid Of?”  It isn’t Putin, or Russian influence, it’s the fear of the American People who rejected Hillary and voted for Trump. Now Trump is looking like an Out of Control Idiot and both Parties are to blame and trying to blame it on The Russians!

          4. There are too many agendas to wade through and I don't know when they're

done if  a general consensus will be found. As I said, an independent investigation would be appropriate…and I agree that RT is state sponsored news..my question is, and? People do not know this? RT America is not watched in Russia and Democrats are only ratcheting up their own red baiting crap if they keep up with this nonsense. They’re not afraid of RT America imo…they’re throwing any crap they can at the wall to explain their predicament from losing the WH and almost a 1000 seats. They suck and do not seem to have a plan to change in any meaningful way…if they did they would be doing a number of things. Like a single payer bill ready to present to the floor of the congress. Getting behind a campaign to block Gorsuch. They stand for nothing but noise. I have to say, since the election there have been quite a few town halls and not once have I heard any voter express any concern on any level about Russia..not the Dems and not the cons either.

            5. ….!

What you say…but, I also think they are afraid of the “Truth Tellers” banished from USA Mainstream media whose voices get to be heard on certain shows on RT America!  They are eating into the MSM viewership (Maddow/MSNBC for the Left) and many RT Watchers were/are Bernie Supporters.

We accuse Russia of doing what our Oligarch Owned Mainstream Media is doing to silence voices of dissent here at home.

              6. They have similar intentions, but thankfully we do have alternative

media. It’s sad but its so obvious how much they wish Bernie never challenged them.

      11. Funny. I can still point to more real reasons and proof regarding how the DNC

undermined my vote and, thus, democracy, than what any Russian did.

I choose to vote for Stein on my own. I was NeverHillary since 2007 (possibly even as long as her 2002 vote on the Iraq War, but I sucked it up and voted for Kerry in 2004, so that wasn’t the entire reason). I didn’t need Boris and Natasha to “meddle” with my mind.

    7. It was history in the making, for sure.

The Twitter President lied his ass off on Twitter, so some Republican Representative at the hearing asked Comey — who was sitting right there in front of him — if what that twit Trump had said were true, and without hesitating Comey said no.

When the Director of the FBI says you just lied, and you just happen to be the President, you’re fucked!!

Nixon should have known better to do what he did when he fired the special prosecutor and his assistant Attorney General on the same weekend night (known for ever more as the Saturday Night Massacre), but Trump thinks he has a more powerful weapon at his disposal than Nixon ever dreamed of . . his freakin’ Twitter account.

That just about sums up the entire horseshit presidency of Trump to this date.

      8. He just keeps lying. Trump Tweet:

“The NSA and FBI tell Congress that Russia did not influence the electoral process.”

Comey: “I have been authorized by the Department of Justice,” Comey said, “to confirm that the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence mission, is investigating the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, and that includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts.”

Trump later holds rally…..are ya with me, folks..everything is great!

It’s surreal..never saw anything like it, the lies are so blatant.

        9. It is blatant, and egotistical.

As if he’s just daring someone to call him a liar to his face. It’s totally unbelievable.
